2018 Dec 02 Proverbs 2, Psalms
Hello to all, wishing you well this day! Let's pick up in Proverbs 2, verses 10-13.
"10 When wisdom enters your heart And knowledge becomes pleasant to your soul, 11 Thinking ability will keep watch over you, And discernment will safeguard you, 12 To save you from the bad course, From the man speaking perverse things, 13 From those leaving the upright paths To walk in the ways of darkness,"
Prov 2:10,11 True wisdom needs to reach our heart for it to do much good, affecting our actions or behavior, not just our speech. Divine knowledge should also become pleasant to us, then thinking ability and discernment will safeguard us. Recall that discernment is the ability to see the difference between true and false, right and wrong, good and bad, wise and unwise, as well as serious matters of the law and lesser matters, though still required. This discernment safeguards us, helping us walk uprightly despite potential hazards and traps that we may be exposed to.
Prov 2:12,13 This thinking ability and discernment saves us from many things, "from the bad course," as we're able to see the difference between good and evil, favoring and choosing the good path. These things save us "from the man speaking perverse (or, corrupt) things." Thus we're able to identify corruption, when words stray from the path of integrity. They also save us "from those leaving the upright paths to walk in the ways of darkness." Those leaving the right path do not find the so-called happiness they seek, but this course leads eventually to misery, which we hope causes them to return, although battered spiritually. Thinking ability and discernment protect us from their influence, helping us maintain right desires before God, the course of true happiness, despite what others may choose. May our stand for faithfulness encourage others to remain on God's side, the side of the truth, true happiness, and eternal life.
Psalm 119 is an acrostic, every 8 verses beginning with the succeeding letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
Psalm 119:1-8 includes the truth that we really can keep God's commandments, living the right way. Verses 1-4 say: "Happy are those who are blameless in their way, Who walk in the law of Jehovah. 2 Happy are those who observe his reminders, Who search for him with all their heart. 3 They practice no unrighteousness; They walk in his ways. 4 You have commanded That your orders be carefully kept." Such a course leads to genuine happiness, especially when faith in God and Christ and love for them and others are the foundation for our obedience.
Psalm 119:9-16 reads: "How can a young man keep his path clean? By keeping on guard according to your word.10 With my whole heart I seek you. Do not let me stray from your commandments.11 In my heart I treasure up your saying So that I may not sin against you. 12 May you be praised, O Jehovah; Teach me your regulations. 13 With my lips I declare All the judgments that you have spoken. 14 I rejoice over your reminders More than over all other valuable things. 15 I will ponder over your orders And keep my eyes on your paths. 16 I am fond of your statutes. I will not forget your word." Verse 11 shows we should treasure up God's sayings in sour heart, pondering and reflecting upon them so that we might live in harmony with God's word, doing this so that we may not sin against God, hurting Him, others, and ourselves. Rather, may we rejoice over God's reminders and orders, His law, keeping it with a complete heart, and finding the joy that only God can give by His spirit.
