2018 Nov 13 Proverbs 13, Psalms, Galatians 3
Hello and a warm welcome to all. Let's consider Proverbs 13. For commentary on verses 1-5, search "Oct 13." Let's now consider verses 6-8.
"6 Righteousness protects the one whose way is innocent, But wickedness brings down the sinner. 7 There is one who pretends to be rich, yet has nothing; There is another who pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth. 8 Riches are the ransom for a man’s life, But the poor are not even threatened."
Prov 13:6 We should strive to be persons of honest integrity, serving the God who cannot lie. Our speech should be truthful and upright. Adhering to God's ways does protect us from much harm that is experienced by others, while foolishly practicing bad harms an individual, and brings him down, ultimately to his grave.
Prov 13:7 Putting on a false front, pretending to be rich, even spiritually, brings no true reward, as honest integrity is needed to grow spiritually and become more successful in God's view. However, some rich persons, especially when rich spiritually, live humbly and modestly. While not looking rich materially, they have great spiritual wealth, seeking to please God.
Prov 13:8 Those who are wealthy materially, do occasionally have such concerns as extortion, while the poor usually have no such worries. May both trust in Jehovah, leaning upon him in their trials.
Psal 54 (Book 2, 13th psalm) Such sentiments are found here as well. Psal 54:4 says "Look! God is my helper; Jehovah is with those supporting me." Verse 7 adds "For he saves me from every distress." May Jehovah continue to lead us to HIs kingdom, bringing genuine peace to mankind.
Galatians 3 shows that Christians are granted salvation by faith in God and Christ, rather than by works of law. Gala 3:6 says "Just as Abraham 'put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness.' Surely you know that it is those who adhere to faith who are sons of Abraham." So those exercising, or practicing, faith in God and Jesus, believing and living by God's word of truth, as one grows in true wisdom, faith, and love, may find God's favor and blessing.
