COME TO CONSENSUS CORNER

STEP UP PLAN - FOR SHELTER, FOOD, NEC. TRANSPORT,  ETC.

Prepared in the love of God Jehovoe, by Joshua Michael JMA Camelanjemy (f. Campbell-Elanemy).

GENERAL PROVISION. While God's law encourages all to be willing to loan money to someone truly in a needy state, not all are in a position to lend much, and there have been harder times when many have been barely able to maintain their own economy. Some, with no money for even a meal, and possibly also not even an available bed with local houses of support, are in a desperate condition, and need our loving attention. This is a policy for helping those in such circumstances, in cooperation with supportive businesses who are to also benefit from these provisions. Since this policy was originally introduced, more structure has grown to support this initiative with increased breadth. Originally, the program was prepared to offer somewhat of a loan to ones who may be in desperate need of food or shelter, and this I believe should remain a key part of what will make this program successful. God's law strongly encouraged, even commanded, that those among God's people aware of someone in a desperate plight, in a poor state, to be offered a loan without seeking profit from such ones, to allow them to have what they need to survive and get back on their feet. In a society that honors God and cherishes people, there are often those willing to offer support to those truly in need, as long as the resources, be they financial or otherwise, will be used judiciously or without waste.

WHERE TO TURN? Imagine being put out of your home, for lack of rent, loss of job, or some other reason, perhaps unfair. Most should have some sort of emergency fund to draw from in such circumstances, but a large percentage of the population has yet to fully recover from the Pandemic and other economic burdens. Where do you turn? Hopefully you have some other support system that can provide a lift for you and your family to recover, but sadly not all can claim this. Of course, those familiar with God's word of promise, may recall such words as at Psalm 46:1, where we read: "God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress." This may remind us that we might speak with both family and friends, church members and the like, to be able to help one another if ever such a situation occurs. While some places offer a shelter here or there, what if these were full? If there is still no one to help, and you were reduced to asking for a handout, which is in some places now against the law, how could you find a way, or how long might it take to receive enough for a meal, or even a warm place to spend the night? What if you could receive loan for a hot meal for you and your family, without begging? Also for a place to stay until a steady income returns, and another home can be found? This program began with the plan for any such loan to have added some extra to be paid back by those benefitting from it--who are deeply grateful for such a provision and able to find work and get on with their lives--the additional being not for profit, but to help ensure that the fund is maintained for others who come after, and doesn't dwindle in it's power to continue supporting those in need.

POINT OF CONTACT. It is well known that the Salvation Army provides beds and perhaps one meal for those in need in their associated communities. Many city transit systems will reach to this location, sometimes for free or very little money. They may locally encourage those receiving help to exit each day for addressing their individual situations, seeking to get back on their feet. It was recommended and affirmed that the local community Salvation Army HAS BECOME a point of contact for receiving funds that could be considered for the STEP UP plan, as well as directing needy ones that may not have a bed at the local facility, to other hotels, etc.--those that have agreed to cooperate with and benefit from the arrangement. Those wishing to donate might contribute to this STEP UP fund. Most importantly, I've recommended that wherever possible, at least on or near local bus or other transportation routes, that hotels consider carefully whether some rooms, many which may be unbooked, in many cases up to 1/2 of hotel room availability, might be considered for an arrangement for rooms to be available on the program for one of three or four rates nightly, $17, $27, $37, or where necessary $47. They might seek every possible method to keep these rates low, realizing that these prices are for each day/night's stay and, while payment is to be made to the hotel immediately, the individual(s) are to be repaying these costs as a loan. It should be considered that in most cases there may be plans to stay for a week at a time, and therefore less need for daily housekeeping services. These might also be rooms less convenient to services such as elevators, etc. It might also be that two separate same-gender persons might be agreeable to sharing a two-bed room, to perhaps halve their loan debt.

FURTHER. The aforementioned addition to the loan is 10%, again coming with this ability to have basic needs met in a humane way, with the aim of restoring personal income, possibly with assistance. In addition to providing shelter, this program also makes provision for food costs, urging that these are used very sparingly--ones must avoid burdening the system--avoid ballooning their loan repayment--with only food that's necessary, and carefully selected. This program could also provide inexpensive cellular smart phones, and cellular service, to those not having such already, which will not only enable phone calls as needed and whenever desired, but may also provide a way for appropriate instruction to be provided, such as on my "Find Life And See Earview Podcast" Spotify.com podcast site (Search "find life") with The Divine Gift of God's Word podcast, and the Win-it Minute Series (Search "Winit" for the first Episode currently 02.161/199 week 1 through 02.167) and Psalm 119 (5#13) Commentary podcast (now 1/2 podcasted, through Stanza 11 out of 22, to eventually cover all 176 verses, as completely authored on my website in written form), all three excellent for gaining a foundation in divine wisdom and life improvement. Similar and more extensive instruction is available on this website and blog, www.findlifeandsee.com. It might be recommended that inexpensive earphones be purchased for listening to the free podcasts, whenever family or others are nearby and involved in other things. LIKELY YOUR LOCAL SALVATION ARMY EXTENSION IS NOT YET EQUIPPED OR FUNDED TO HANDLE ALL THE PROVISIONS ABOVE FOR AS MANY AS THEY WOULD WISH TO HELP. However, it is my understanding now that that many local extensions are already prepared for some of these services, and others of them may soon be made available. Therefore, please currently contribute by your prayers and use your local extension as a contact EITHER FOR:

(1) For contributions either to the STEP UP Fund or the Salvation Army itself, your choice.

(2) If personally in need of shelter, etc. still willing to receive of available services either there on the premises, or elsewhere only if need be.

Many will be truly grateful for the help they will be receiving, and how others too will benefit.
