Oct 29 Psalms 29, 70, Titus 1
Hello, with warm wishes for a good day. Let's consider some refreshing thoughts from Psalms and Titus. We'll begin with Psalms 29. Notice the power of God, and what He deserves from us:
"1 Give Jehovah his due, you sons of mighty ones, Give Jehovah his due for his glory and strength. 2 Give Jehovah the glory due his name. Bow down to Jehovah in holy adornment. 3 The voice of Jehovah is heard over the waters; The glorious God thunders. Jehovah is over many waters. 4 The voice of Jehovah is powerful; The voice of Jehovah is splendid. 5 The voice of Jehovah is breaking the cedars; Yes, Jehovah shatters the cedars of Lebʹa·non...The voice of Jehovah makes the deer shudder and give birth And strips bare the forests. And all in his temple say: “Glory!” 10 Jehovah sits enthroned above the flooding waters; Jehovah sits enthroned as King forever. 11 Jehovah will give strength to his people. Jehovah will bless his people with peace."
Yes, how awesome and powerful is the true God, Jehovah! When He speaks, we can count on his powerful word to be fulfilled. May we give Jehovah the glory due His name. May we be privileged to represent Jehovah as one of his true Christian servants, bringing Him glory by being obedient to Him and His word from the heart, truly loyal. And again how dependable is God's word. As Isai 55:10,11 says: "For just as the rain and the snow pour down from heaven And do not return there until they saturate the earth, making it produce and sprout, Giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 So my word that goes out of my mouth will be. It will not return to me without results, But it will certainly accomplish whatever is my delight, And it will have sure success in what I send it to do."
Psal 70 (Book 2, 29th psalm) expresses the king's reliance on God in spite of evildoers jealously trying to bring harm to him and 'delighting in his calamity.' May they "retreat in humiliation" and "be driven back in shame." But let those truly seeking Jehovah "exult and rejoice" in Him. Who deserves the most honor and praise? The wrongdoers fail to seek the honor and glory of God--rather seeking their own glory. Instead, Psal 70:4: "May those who love your acts of salvation always say: 'May God be magnified!'" Even the anointed of Jehovah has a humble view, reliant upon Jehovah: Psal 70:5: "But I am helpless and poor; O God, act quickly in my behalf. You are my helper and my rescuer; O Jehovah, do not delay."
Titu 1:1,2 Once again how dependable and trustworthy is God and His word, revealing "the accurate knowledge of the truth that is according to godly devotion and is based on a hope of the everlasting life that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago." Jehovah is clearly the God of truth, who refuses the lie, which he hates. (Prov 6:16-19).
