Hello! Let's look at Proverbs 19 for starters. For commentary on verses 1-3 or 4-8 search "Sept 19" and "Oct 19". We'll consider Proverbs 19:9-11.

"9 A false witness will not go unpunished, And the one who lies with every breath will perish. 10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury; How much less for a servant to rule over princes! 11 The insight of a man certainly slows down his anger, And it is beauty on his part to overlook an offense."

Prov 19:9 Lies are clearly among the seven things Jehovah hates, as we find in Proverbs 6:16-19, including "a false witness who lies with every breath" How serious! Jehovah is the "God of truth" and His word says it is "impossible" for Him to lie. How we should treasure the truth, and with purity of heart and mind to see the truth clearly. While seeking to be upright and speak with an honest heart, we should still have in mind that there is "a time to be silent and a time to speak." (Eccl 3:7b).

Prov 19:10 The fool scoffs at discipline and true wisdom. Such a person may even be among the "ruthless men" who "seize riches." (Prov 11:16). May we not use underhanded means to obtain riches, but rather find success in harmony with Proverbs 22:4, which says "The result of humility and the fear of Jehovah is riches and glory and life."

Prov 19:11 Insight into a situation, with compassionate comprehension, seeing the reasons for an offense, helps us to be more calm about it, and to mercifully forgive another. May we take this to heart, as "everyone must be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger."

Psalm 60 (Book 2, 19th psalm) pleads for God to overlook a lack of faith in Him, exalting His power, saying in Psal 60:11,12: "Help us in our distress, for salvation by humans is worthless. By God we will gain power, and he will trample on our adversaries." Yes, seeking salvation without God's help or direction, is "worthless." May we have the habit of turning to God for direction, even if He uses human efforts or institutions to assist us--let us trust His guidance, and not just rely on "our own understanding." (Prov 3:5,6).

Philippians 3 encourages us to remain humble, as regards our salvation. Did the faithful apostle Paul already "have it made?" At Phps 3:13 Paul, regarding his hope, says "Brothers, I do not yet consider myself as having taken hold of it; but one thing is certain: Forgetting the things behind and stretching forward to the things ahead..." May we not drift back into a selfish course of life, but continually look ahead with hope in God as we "continue loving Him" and others, finding those spiritual rewards and those long-term ones, even everlasting life in true love, happiness, and peace.
