TRUE UNITY POSSIBLE. 2Peter 1:2-4 highlights "accurate knowledge," reminding us of the true unity that is possible if we humbly accept God's instruction and apply it in our personal lives. Peter is likely writing primarily to those with heavenly hopes, to share in "divine nature," but these words can encourage all to treasure devotion to God in a close, personal relationship with Him, as we grow in the accurate knowledge of God and His purpose involving Christ, to find peace in our lives by God's undeserved kindness, with precious promises of eternal life. These verses read: "2 May undeserved kindness and peace be increased to you by an accurate knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 for his divine power has granted us all the things that contribute to life and godly devotion through the accurate knowledge of the One who called us by his own glory and virtue. 4 Through these things he has granted us the precious and very grand promises, so that through these you may become sharers in divine nature, having escaped from the world’s corruption produced by wrong desire." God's word instructs, at Galatians 5:16: "Keep walking by spirit and you will carry out no fleshly desire at all." May we turn away wrong desires, satisfying our right desires in harmony with God's love and reasonableness, as He can help us find all we need in life to be truly content and happy, including true friends and for most, eventually perhaps all, a loyal marriage partner, with an understanding of right standards to live by, peaceably with others. May we always treasure God's loyal love toward us by seeking to ever please Him, walking with Him toward eternal life, alongside as many as possible, as God "does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance." (2Peter 3:9).

SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT. 2Peter 1:5-8 contains crucial steps to our spiritual development. Let’s remark as we go through the crucial steps just mentioned. The foundation is our faith, or a grateful trust, primarily in Jehovoe God, His Son Jesus, God’s word, and Jesus’ ransom sacrifice. Having such, we would come to trust also in God's Kingdom to truly solve mankind's problems. While being built on this faithful reliance on God, other attributes are needed. The verses read as follows: “5 For this very reason, put forth all earnest effort to supply to your faith virtue (godly attributes such as purity of heart, and true hope), to your virtue knowledge (including knowledge of God’s law through Christ), 6 to your knowledge self-control (needed to obey God’s law that we learn), to your self-control endurance (to obey over time through trials), to your endurance godly devotion (close attachment to Jehovoe personally), 7 to your godly devotion brotherly affection (pure friendship with other God-fearing persons), to your brotherly affection love (unselfishness looking for best interests of all, in harmony with godly wisdom). 8 For if these things exist in you and overflow, they will prevent you from being either inactive or unfruitful regarding the accurate knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

GOD'S CHOICE DECISIONS. How beneficial, then, to learn to acquire these attributes with respect to God's word, decisions, and arrangements for the spiritual and physical blessings under His Kingdom's rulership! May we be supportive of those whom God has selected, including myself, to represent Him, sharing with all who will, divine wisdom to lovingly obey Him and promote the genuine peace that only Jehovoe makes possible through such faith as described above!

NOT SHUTTING EYES (SPIRITUALLY). 2Peter 1:9-11 refers to not shutting our eyes to the light, so that we do not lack the qualities mentioned in the previous verses, such as godly knowledge, self-control, and godly devotion. If we close our eyes to the light of Scriptural truth, we can be truly blind, not able to see dangers right in front of us. These verses read as follows: “9 For anyone lacking these things is blind, shutting his eyes to the light, and has become forgetful of his cleansing from his sins of long ago. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and choosing sure for yourselves, for if you keep on doing these things, you will by no means ever fail. 11 In fact, in this way you will be richly granted entrance into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” As we learn to serve God properly, may we likewise encourage others to do so, assisting them, including our precious children, according to their ability, to make spiritual progress. Thus we will be reminded of the steps we took to grow spiritually, and that we should not forget or take for granted, but maintain our firm hold on our hope and faith in God and Jesus.

GENUINE FAITH. 2Peter 2 cautions true Christians to be wary of false teachers among Christianity. Clearly it would those without a good grasp of God's word or with improper motives being referred to here. Such ones would prove to be a divisive influence, quietly bringing in "destructive sects" and disown God, "the owner who bought them," purchased "with the blood of His own Son." (Acts 20:28). May such ones repent, and seek to cling to God's word of truth, humbly seeking the praise and glory of God, and not that of themselves. John 7:18 says "Whoever speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory; but whoever seeks the glory of the one who sent him, this one is true and there is no unrighteousness in him." However, it should here be acknowledged that the judgment against the forming of "sects" in the Scriptures does not necessarily apply to every former of a new church with a different name, as some may imply or contend. In fact, one of the 12 tribes of Christianity evidently is Congregationalist, acknowledged even by U.S. founding fathers, and is considered as permitting more localized groupings, and self-governing (still seeking faithfulness to God's word) rather than so organized as most are. Among these are the Assembly of God churches. Acknowledging that God has brought about 12 tribes of Christianity, which nevertheless can ascribe to a single genuine faith in Christ, realizing those having such faith enable genuine growth as Christians, seeking adherence to God's law, respectful of the law of the land--such things are more important to God than debates over doctrinal issues of varying significance, such as the issue of circumcision which the early Christians tolerated for several years before addressing, in a way accepted genuinely by sincere Christians everywhere, and blessed by God. (Acts 15). Still, warnings against worshipping falsely should still be heeded, as 2Peter 2:1-3 reads this way: "1 However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among you. These will quietly bring in destructive sects, and they will even disown the owner who bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. 2 Furthermore, many will follow their brazen conduct, and because of them the way of the truth will be spoken of abusively. 3 Also, they will greedily exploit you with counterfeit words. But their judgment, decided long ago, is not moving slowly, and their destruction is not sleeping." May we carefully examine the word of God, especially the teachings of Christ, to treasure and maintain our hold on Christian truth, trusting God in prayer, as He guides us by his holy spirit into "all the truth," appreciating His genuine instruction and guidance based solidly on the word of God.

TRUTH LIFE-SAVING. 2Peter 2:4,5 responds to earlier mention of false teachers among the early true Christian congregation, who would by their mixing human philosophies and false religious ideas with the truth, “disown the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves.” This is a serious matter to God, as it is the truth of God that is life-saving, and that will “set you free.” (1Timo 2:3,4; John 8:32). Peter continues, showing God is not averse to acting against ungodly sinners. However, the number of opposers in the past has no bearing on the current situation, in a world still made and loved by God. The current world is full of descendants of Noah's obedient family, and scripturally, some may change their life course significantly, to choose eternal life respectful of a loving God, as He may have flooded even this world with genuine waters of truth. Verses 4,5 read: “4 Certainly God did not refrain from punishing the angels who sinned, but threw them into Tarʹta·rus, putting them in chains of dense darkness to be reserved for judgment. 5 And he did not refrain from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah, a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a flood upon a world of ungodly people.” May we therefore appreciate God’s loving instructions for eternal life, responding to His kind discipline and correction. Jehovoe wants the best for us, in harmony with His primary quality, mentioned at 1John 4:8, “8...God is love.”

Here is some related encouragement from God, through the Christian apostle Peter:

NOT MINIMIZING BIBLE WARNINGS. 2Peter 3:1-4 shows that there would be those minimizing Bible warnings and prophecies, as if nothing has changed since "creation's beginning." But make no mistake--the evidence is clear that we've been at 'day's end' of the old system, and at the beginning of a new system, or arrangement, of things, with the doing away of corruption and lawlessness, to be replaced with integrity and respect for God's "perfect law that belongs to freedom," as the Bible book of James expresses. James 1:25 says this: "But the one who peers into the perfect law that belongs to freedom and continues in it has become, not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work; and he will be happy in what he does." We must trust God's decisions and guidance in truth to really benefit. A related expression is found at Psalm 19:7, which says this: "The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring strength. The reminder of Jehovah is trustworthy, making the [imprudent] one wise." God's Kingdom is soon to bring significant changes among right-hearted mankind, eventually ushering in blessings of good health and happiness worldwide. May we do all we can to uphold the truth, helping as many as possible to exercise faith in God's promises and benefit by a close relationship with Him.

AVOID BEING "CAUGHT OFF GUARD." May we not be caught off guard by critics, realizing God foresees their ridicule: Peter's words read this way: "Beloved ones, this is now the second letter I am writing you in which, as in my first one, I am stirring up your clear thinking faculties by way of a reminder, 2 that you should remember the sayings previously spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. 3 First of all know this, that in the last days ridiculers will come with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as they were from creation’s beginning.” Peter goes on to remind Christians that such ones "deliberately ignore this fact, that long ago there were heavens and an earth standing firmly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; 6 and that by those means the world of that time suffered destruction when it was flooded with water." Therefore, just as God judged an evil, violent world in Noah's day, so He is capable now, but far prefers removing evil practices at this time of judgment. (Prove 2:20-22). May such ones repent of any such thoughts and activity, being remorseful over their disappointing and harmful conduct, that God may bless their sincere repentance, and help them find true happiness in life, even with a loyal marriage partner to share life with in the coming new world. Still, we've also experienced injustice in many good persons losing their life in this Pandemic--God can resurrect such loved ones in the new world, as part of the "resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous." (Acts 24:15). May as many as possible appreciate God's mercy and love for his human creation, and respond accordingly, seeking to please our loving God by careful obedience and adherence to His wise and loving standards.

LEARNING FROM HISTORY. 2Peter 3:5-7 These verses remind us that ignorers of God are failing to learn from history—that such ones living in the days of Noah met their end, as a warning to us living through the “last days” of an ungodly system of things. While God is seeking the repentance of all people, aligning themselves for eternal happiness, He will still deny this privilege to unappreciative, unrepentant evil ones. This warning should move ones to reevaluate their relationship with God. These words read: “5 For they deliberately ignore this fact, that long ago there were heavens and an earth standing firmly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; 6 and that by those means the world of that time suffered destruction when it was flooded with water. 7 But by the same word the heavens and the earth that now exist are reserved for fire and are being kept until the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly.” Recall that "fire" is not only destructive, but can also be used to refine, or reshape malleable material. Jehovah is merciful, reasonable, and a God of perfect justice. (Psalm 86:5; Deute 32:4) May we grow to appreciate Him more, by looking into His trustworthy and beneficial word the Bible. (Psalm 1:1-3).

FRIENDSHIP WITH FATHER AND SON. At 1John 1:1-4, John writes, bearing testimony as to his dealings with Jehosha, his "fellowship" with him, having seen him and witnessed his speech, teachings, and actions. The eyewitness accounts of his life and ministry are not "artfully contrived stories," as some opposers may have claimed toward the end of the first century as John wrote, but are entirely true, with God's spirit upon the writers. John writes with regard to the fellowship that believers can have amongst one another, but underscores it to be a "fellowship with the Father and with his Son Jehosha Christ." True peace, love, and unity is only genuinely possible among those who love and fear, or highly regard, Jehovoe God, the God who "is love," and respect His Son, Jehosha, even loving him and his teachings. John's words read as follows: "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have observed and our hands have felt, concerning the word of life, 2 (yes, the life was made manifest, and we have seen and are bearing witness and reporting to you the everlasting life that was with the Father and was made manifest to us), 3 that which we have seen and heard we are reporting also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete." When all have fellowship with the Father and the Son, the unselfish love, peace, and unity possible is well expressed at Psalm 133:1-3. Verse 2 highlights the anointing of the high priest, Aaron, which foreshadowed Christ's priestly duties, looking after the welfare and interests of all spiritual Israel, "all those who will walk orderly by this (Christian) rule of conduct." (Galat 6:16). Verse 1 exclaims the blessing of true peace, and verse 3 it's refreshing value. Here we read: "Look! How good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like fine oil poured on the head That runs down the beard, Aaron’s beard, And runs down onto the collar of his garments. 3 It is like the dew of Herʹmon That descends on the mountains of Zion. That is where Jehovoe decreed his blessing—Life everlasting."

CLOSENESS TO GOD. 1John 1 alerts us to what it means to be close to God. 1John 1:5-7 says: "This is the message that we heard from him and are announcing to you: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him. 6 If we make the statement, “We are having fellowship with him,” and yet we go on walking in the darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. 7 However, if we are walking in the light as he himself is in the light, we do have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jehosha his Son cleanses us from all sin." May we love the light of truth, and walk accordingly, hating the darkness that prevents others from seeing the truth, threatening their eternal life. May we shine the light of truth for others to see the beauty of God's love and His word of truth.

[1Peter 1:14-16]: "As obedient children, stop being molded by the desires you formerly had in your ignorance, 15 but like the Holy One who called you, become holy yourselves in all your conduct, 16 for it is written: “You must be holy, because I am holy.”

HOLY AND CLEAN. There is a word used in the Bible that has become somewhat misunderstood in some circles, yet it is so important to comprehend it's true meaning, as it can seriously affect our own view of God as our Creator and the extent of His goodness and love for all of us as the precious people He's made, to love and be loved by. This word, properly understood, draws us close to God as completely trustworthy. The word is "holy," and has many aspects, among them being "clean, uncorrupt." Yes, the true God is holy in a complete sense, and therefore is not corrupt or abusive in any respect. He has purposed that those seeking to love and please, even represent, Him also uphold such revered purity. Yes, we are expected by Him to be clean, upholding divine standards that are not beyond reach, and likewise not be given to serious violations of what is truly right and good before Him. Can we not be grateful that our loving Father above is truly interested in our genuine peace, joyful happiness, and, while caring for ourselves, also our carefully unselfish dealings with Him and one another? With such a view, the ransom is able to cover primarily unintentional missteps, in God and His Son's merciful love.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LAW. This would include consideration of the Ten Commandments, the introduction, if you will, by God to His Mosaic Law covenant. Jesus would prove to keep the Law completely, to a degree that no one prior was able to do. Of course, he would offer new teachings, that gave people a fresh way of looking at living by God's standards, in harmony with the greatest commandments of the Law, to love God with our all, and then our neighbor as ourself. The Mosaic Law itself can thus be seen from a new perspective, with greater insight into God's thinking and what it means to love Him and others as genuine Christians. This segment offers highlights from consideration of the Mosaic Law covenant, as found largely in Exodus, taking God's laws to Israel point by point. Leviticus adds laws for the Levitical priesthood, Numbers some related to organization, and Deuteronomy, which means "Second Law" was largely a restatement of the Law by Moses, and was doubtless one of Jesus' favorite books, evidently being the one he quoted from the most! Especially let's be reminded of how God wants to be worshipped, as we largely consider points from the Mosaic Law as they have application in the life of a Christian today. Many today wish to worship God on their own terms, but doesn’t God have the right, the authority as Author of the Universe, to reveal to us they way to our greatest happiness--to inform us as to His will to worship Him acceptably? Let's highlight the Mosaic Law seeing parallels in true Christianity. May we review and increase our understanding of true worship!

CHRISTIAN STANDARD: PRINCIPLED LOVE TEACHES OTHERS ABOUT GOD COMPASSIONATELY, ESPECIALLY THOSE YOUNGER IN SPIRITUALITY.

Now let’s consider Exodus 23:19: “You are to bring the best of the first ripe fruits of your ground to the house of Jehovoe your God. “You must not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

SACRIFICES OF PRAISE. This isn’t the only time these two commands appear together—they are actually repeated at Exodus 34:26! What could they possibly have in common? Well, let’s start with the first one—the Israelites were to offer their best to Jehovoe in sacrifice, and in this case the best of the first ripe fruits—to be brought to Jehovoe’s house for sacrifice, and of use to the attending priests. Attending priests were to present them before Jehovoe, and this would be a way for Israelites to credit Jehovoe with all of the fruits harvested from the ground, and thanking Him for His blessing on their efforts. The priests would also benefit, as they had no ground to cultivate, and relied upon what was brought to them from other tribes of Israel. How do God’s people today benefit? What sacrifices do Christians present to Jehovoe God today? For one, we may offer sacrifices of praise to Jehovoe, by sharing Kingdom truth to others. Hebrews 13:15,16 mentions this and other sacrifices, in these words: “15 Through him [Jesus] let us always offer to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips that make public declaration to his name. 16 Moreover, do not forget to do good and to share what you have with others, for God is well-pleased with such sacrifices.”

SPEAKING WITH COMPASSION. Thus the apostle Paul makes reference to the “fruit of our lips,” along with publicly declaring God’s name. In speaking about God to others, we therefore should not “boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” What could this mean? As we share the Bible’s message with others, teaching them about God, should we not make sure we speak compassionately, especially with those “younger” in their spirituality, in their knowledge about God? The purpose of milk is to nourish the young—never should such elementary nourishment be turned toward harmful speech that crushes tender hearts! Especially should a young one’s own parents offer loving, tender encouragement toward them wherever possible. Thus Paul relates that he and his companions demonstrated sincere, compassionate motives in teaching those in Thessalonica, saying, at 1Thessalonians 2:5-8, “5 In fact, you know that we never used flattering speech or put on any false front with greedy motives; God is witness! 6 Nor have we been seeking glory from men, either from you or from others, though we could be an expensive burden as apostles of Christ. 7 On the contrary, we became gentle in your midst, as when a nursing mother tenderly cares for her own children. 8 So having tender affection for you, we were determined to impart to you, not only the good news of God but also our very selves, because you became so beloved to us.” May we likewise be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others, especially as they begin their walk with God, getting to know our loving Father and Life-giver, the God who is love, Jehovoe. (1John 4:8). Acknowledging God’s hand in our “fruit of lips” may go a long way toward ensuring that our speech is used to His honor, truly benefitting our listeners.

GAINING PEACE WITH RIGHT DESIRE. This week let's begin anew a consideration of the Mosaic Law, beginning with the Ten Commandments, all of which can be shown applicable to genuine Christians. Just as Christ placed emphasis on a person's thinking, and not just actions, so this Tenth Commandment helps all to appreciate the importance of controlled thinking:

Let’s now consider Exodus 20:17: “17 You must not desire your fellow man’s house. You must not desire your fellow man’s wife nor his slave man nor his slave girl nor his bull nor his donkey nor anything that belongs to your fellow man.”

FINDING TRUE PEACE, UNSELFISH LOVE. As we’ve been considering, can we really say that any of the Ten Commandments are not important, or not of value to mankind? Can we not see how even the Tenth one can significantly help the development of true peace, unselfish love, and happiness between humans? Also other commands of the Mosaic Law, which in their entirety Jesus kept perfectly, promoted such things among Israel. We should be able to make connections to Jesus’ own words and commands to his followers, which are binding upon all who would be true Christians today. Let’s back up, though, and take this one commandment step by step:

CHART OWN PROGRESS, AVOIDING ENVY. “You must not desire your fellow man’s house.” This reference to a man’s “house” was likely all-encompassing, including, not only the literal building materials, but the man’s “home” with his accumulated possessions, spouse, children, animals, land, etc. We should not be jealous of the man, or envious of what he may have worked hard to obtain, gather, and accumulate over many years of effort, using God-given gifts and acquired wisdom, skills, and training to do so. Every man should have enough unselfish love and compassion so as to be happy for what others have, while seeking God’s blessing on one’s own efforts to establish a home for himself. God’s word encourages this, while discouraging comparisons with others and their accomplishments. For instance, Romans 12:15 says “15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep.” We should, with empathy, be genuinely happy for those who have found a measure of happiness themselves, although God’s Kingdom will surely bring this in much fuller measure for all obedient mankind. Also, regarding unhealthy comparisons, notice the words of Galatians 6:4: “4 But let each one examine his own actions, and then he will have cause for rejoicing in regard to himself alone, and not in comparison with the other person.” We each have opportunity to be happy with our own individual progress in life, whether in our own personal activities, or in business pursuits, or in other areas. We should perhaps chart our own progress, comparing what we’re doing now with what we did last week, last month, or last year at this same time. Then we can appreciate our own progress and development, and be happy with this. Notice these words in the Amplified Version: “4 But let every person carefully scrutinize and examine and test his own conduct and his own work. He can then have the personal satisfaction and joy of doing something commendable [in itself alone] without [resorting to] boastful comparison with his neighbor.” Such a view discourages unhealthy comparisons with others as well as insidious jealousy, which God’s word outright condemns.

AVOIDING JEALOUSY. For instance, Proverbs 14:30 says “30 A calm heart gives life to the body, But jealousy is rottenness to the bones.” Or, as the saying goes, “rotten to the core.” Clearly, jealousy can permeate the entire body of a person, ruining their spirituality and any associated happiness. James adds this, in James 3:15,16: “15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above; it is earthly, animalistic, demonic. 16 For wherever there are jealousy and contentiousness, there will also be disorder and every vile thing.” Do we need “every vile thing” in our life? May we utterly reject jealousy and even “contentiousness,” or the tendency to want to fight others, to claim superiority over them. Would we not rather be humble, reliant upon God for our success, and gain and maintain true unselfish love in our life and dealings with others? This is the course of eternal life.

NOR HIS WIFE. Therefore, may we not desire what rightfully belongs to our fellowman, including his “wife.” How near and dear to a man’s heart is his rightful spouse. God himself brought the first man and woman together. Jesus quoted this from Genesis, when asked about divorce, saying, at Matthew 19:5,6: “5...‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’? 6 So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together, let no man put apart.” God is the Originator of the marriage and family arrangement, which has had His blessing for millenniums. Yes, while there is provision for divorce in cases of serious “fornication” against one’s mate, normally who should dare to rip apart a person’s body in half, by trying to steal the heart of his or her spouse, the two becoming “one flesh?” This would not be God’s doing, and therefore should be universally recognized as a violation of what is holy before God!

RIGHT DESIRES, LOOKING TO GOD. Neither should we desire the “slave” or workers of a man, perhaps in his business, nor his animals, or any other provision that serves to feed his family. Nor should we desire “anything that belongs to your fellowman.” Clearly this commandment gets to the root cause of the harmful thinking patterns of envy and jealousy, as well as practices such as stealing. If we all merely look to God to satisfy our right desires, we may avoid much sin and have better dealings with others. James 1:14,15 says “14 But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn sin, when it has been carried out, brings forth death.” May we regularly analyze ourselves, including our desires, to ensure they are in harmony with God’s delightful will for mankind. May we be appreciative of the fine gifts God has given us in life, and be happy with what others have been given as well, compassionately rejoicing with them. Thus, may we come to see the benefits of considering God’s laws to both Israel and true Christians today, finding parallels in the way we are to treat one another in harmony with true love, justice, and peace.

SETTING OF & APPRECIATION FOR THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. Let’s consider the setting in which God’s chosen people of ancient times were assembled to hear God’s actual voice from heaven relate the words that would be inscribed by God’s finger on stone tablets, separate from the “handwritten document” that was temporarily set aside at Christ’s impalement--causing great distress. (Matthew 27:51-54). Yet, that "handwritten" Law was to be understood differently following that event--with a new Christian perspective. Following this introduction, we may review thoughts from 2Peter 1. For a careful consideration of the Ten, you may look in the article section under the Christianity heading, in the article "What it Means to be Upright"—how important for all wishing to obey the true God, looking forward to Paradise blessings!

Let’s begin with Exodus 19:14,15, as Israel prepares to formally meet Jehovoe God:
“14 Then Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and he began to sanctify the people, and they washed their clothing. 15 He said to the people: “Get ready for the third day. Abstain from sexual relations.”

CLEAN STANDING. You may recall from a previous consideration that the people were to wash their clothes, which was appropriate for the occasion of appearing formally before Jehovoe. This may also have figuratively depicted one’s having a clean standing before God, with clean conduct. (Revel 19:8). Moses commanded the next two days they were to demonstrate self-control by abstaining from sexual relations, God’s gift for married partners, as they would bring focus to their relationship with Jehovoe God, their Life-giver and the Giver of “every good gift and every perfect present.” (James 1:17). Their obeying God in this matter may have helped prepare their hearts for concentrating on God’s forthcoming Law, as they would conclude with God the Mosaic Law covenant. Jehovoe gives us His laws and commands for our lasting welfare and happiness, along with such gifts as the gift of marriage. May we always acknowledge God’s right to regulate our lives for our own benefit and the benefit of others, contributing to our true happiness.

Notice God’s power, as He sets the stage for this meeting. Let’s see in Exodus 19:16-19:
“16 On the morning of the third day, there was thunder and lightning, and there was a heavy cloud on the mountain and a very loud sound of a horn, and all the people in the camp began to tremble. 17 Moses now brought the people out of the camp to meet the true God, and they took their place at the base of the mountain. 18 Mount Siʹnai smoked all over, because Jehovoe came down upon it in fire; and its smoke was rising like the smoke of a kiln, and the whole mountain was trembling violently. 19 As the sound of the horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and the voice of the true God answered him.”

GOD'S GREAT POWER! So the approach of this meeting brings thunder and lightning—how such can move us to highly regard God’s great power! As promised, there was also a “heavy cloud” on the mountain, which could amplify sound for the occasion, and the “very loud sound of a horn,” perhaps signaling the call for assembling the people before Jehovoe. The result of all of this was that “all the people in the camp began to tremble.” Certainly, Jehovoe wanted all of his people Israel to have a proper regard for Him, to “understand the fear (or, "awe") of Jehovoe, and...find the knowledge of God.” Still, this was to be a healthy fear, not a morbid one. Why, this great God Jehovoe, by His power, and loyal love, had rescued all Israel from Pharaoh and the mighty Egyptian army! They had every reason to be drawn close to God for His just use of His great power. Still, this was certainly an unusual occurrence, which reasonably brought on a “trembling” among all the people, just as our hearts may have trembled some time just at the experience of close lightning and thunder.

AN IMPRESSIVE MEETING. Moses now brings the people out of the camp “to meet the true God,” and assembles them at the base of Mount Sinai. More miracles awaited them. Jehovoe “came down” upon the mountain “in fire,” and “its smoke was rising like the smoke of a kiln.” To this day we might reasonably expect the real Mount Sinai to give evidence of this burning, having a burnt appearance, or in some way reflecting this occurrence. Nevertheless, what a sight for all Israel! What evidence of the reality of this great God, Jehovoe, no figment of their imagination! The whole mountain was even “trembling violently.” As the horn sound grew louder, Moses spoke, and Jehovoe responded—likely with His voice resembling thunder—what an astounding and memorable experience! May we likewise visualize Bible events with our mind’s eye, that we may gain greater comprehension of the lessons to be learned—in this case to have a proper regard for the greatness of Jehovoe, not allowing others to cause us to think less of Him for their own egotistical or God-dishonoring and self-serving interests.

GOD'S LOVING WILL. What a dramatic display! May we always have a weighty regard for Jehovoe whenever His enlightening word is considered, or we approach Him to assemble in Christian meetings. What a privilege to attend such with fellow believers, as those seeking the divine truth of Scripture, to worship the true God Jehovoe acceptably—as He wants to be worshipped—not just as we wish to worship Him. God’s word itself helps to clarify for us how to do this, that we may become truly united earth-wide, regardless of which tribe of Christianity we may belong to. It is God’s will that we all “speak in agreement, that there may not be divisions among [us], but that [we] may be fitly united in the same mind and in the same line of thought.” (1Cori 1:10). Thus, 1Timothy 2:3,4 says “3 This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth.” May we pursue and encourage pursuit of Christian truth with fellow believers, to the accomplishing of God’s will, the doing of which was like food to Jesus, saying “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” As mentioned above, you may review the Ten Commandments by considering the article on this website under the Christianity heading, entitled "What Does it Mean to be Righteous?"

TEN COMMANDMENTS - FIRST--GOD'S RIGHT TO OUR RESPECT, LOVE, DEVOTION

Let's continue the examination of the Original Ten Commandments written by God's finger on stone tablets...

Let's consider this in Exodus 20:1-3 :

“20 Then God spoke all these words: 2 “I am Jehovoe your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3 You must not have any other gods besides me.”

GOD'S RIGHT TO EXCLUSIVE WORSHIP. The first of the Ten Commandments, that God first spoke before all Israel, before writing them on two stone tablets. Notice that while all ten commands or laws are important, they do have an order. The first three have to do with our worshipping only Jehovoe, and doing so in sincerity—not in name only. The first commandment is that we acknowledge God’s right to exclusive worship, that we refuse to worship any other gods, or in a way that violates God's own wise and loving standards for living. Encouraging us to have this view is God’s own reminder of His great loyal love and power that enabled Him to bring Abraham’s descendants out of slavery in Egypt, that He keep His promise that they would inhabit the Promised Land. (GENes 28:10,13). Egypt, being the first world power of Bible prophecy, is often used prophetically to represent an ungodly system's ruling authority (aspects ignoring God--see REVel 11:8). Many Christians today are grateful to God for having brought them out of an ungodly sphere of influence and it’s false worship, gaining true freedom to serve Jehovoe faithfully. With the coming of God's Kingdom, we may be exuberant over the loving exercise of God's power on the world scene. In this regard, Revelation 11:15 says: "The seventh angel blew his trumpet. And there were loud voices in heaven, saying: “The kingdom of the world has become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will rule as king forever and ever.” So have you been brought “out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery?” We can come into a spiritual Promised Land, able to worship God among lovers of truth, finding true peace, joy, and love among one another. May we appreciate the spiritual paradise that can be enjoyed now, as we look forward to an entire earthly Paradise ahead.

PUTTING JEHOVOE FIRST. Still, we need to be careful not to worship any god but Jehovoe. Without putting Jehovoe first, whoever or whatever we are enslaved to, this one we serve. (GALat 4:3,8). May we align our habits, ways, and practices with true worship, the right and loving standards of Jehovoe as set forth in His holy word, the Bible. And may we seek to honor Him by our speech and actions, acknowledging God over any possession, or any other person, organization, or field of endeavor. (Psalm 97:7; 1Cori 1:31). Jeremiah 9:23,24 says “23 This is what Jehovoe says: “Let not the wise man boast about his wisdom; Let not the mighty man boast about his mightiness; And let not the rich man boast about his riches.” 24 “But let the one boasting boast about this: That he has insight and knowledge of me, That I am Jehovoe, the One showing loyal love, justice, and righteousness in the earth, For in these things I take delight,” declares Jehovoe.” May we thus speak well of Jehovoe to others, giving Him due praise and honor, as our Creator and Life-giver—the One who gives us “life, breath, and all things.” (ACTs 17:25).

OF SERIOUS IMPORT. The seriousness, the life and death importance of heeding this first command was underscored by Moses, at Deuteronomy 30:15-20. Notice his words, which may have serious import for Christians today: “15 “See, I do put before you today life and good, and death and bad. 16 If you listen to the commandments of Jehovoe your God that I am commanding you today, by loving Jehovoe your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his judicial decisions, then you will live and multiply, and Jehovoe your God will bless you in the land you are going to possess. 17 “But if your heart turns away and you do not listen and you are enticed and bow down to other gods and serve them, 18 I tell you today that you will certainly perish. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess. 19 I take the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you today that I have put life and death before you, the blessing and the curse; and you must choose life so that you may live, you and your descendants, 20 by loving Jehovoe your God, by listening to his voice, and by sticking to him, for he is your life and by him you will endure a long time in the land that Jehovoe swore to give to your forefathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”” Then God's chosen people Israel were to be an example to all the world as to the benefits and blessings that come from worshipping the true God Jehovoe properly. Of course, God in time would send his son, Jehosha/Jesus, as stated at John 3:17, "For God did not send his Son into the world for him to judge the world, but for the world to be saved through him." Thus we see that "Jehovoe is not slow concerning his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with you because he does not desire anyone to lose life but desires all to attain to repentance."

LOVE JEHOVOE. Likewise, may we grow to love deeply our Life-giver and loving Father, Jehovoe, and show it by our adherence to His standards and commands. 1John 5:3 says “3 For this is what the love of God means, that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome.” May we look forward to further consideration of the Ten Commandments which God first spoke in the ears of all Israel, at Mount Sinai.

TEN COMMANDMENTS

SECOND, Idolatry
Let’s consider Exodus 20:4-6:

“4 “You must not make for yourself a carved image ("idol", NLT) or a form (for worship) like anything that is in the heavens above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. 5 You must not bow down to them nor be enticed to serve them, for I, Jehovoe your God, am a God who requires exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing loyal love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments.””

EGYPT'S IDOLATRY. We need to understand the background here. Israel has just escaped from the world of Egypt, where idols abounded. The Egyptians worshiped many false gods, and no doubt had carved images of them for the purpose of worship. The Israelites faced such practices perhaps from the time they were very young in Egypt, and Jehovoe understood this. The real issue was worship—they were not to be enticed to bow down or worship any such image or idol, or fear it’s influence in their life. They were to trust Jehovoe, and worship Him exclusively—the true and living God responsible for blessing every aspect of their lives as they served Him properly.

A DIVIDING OF ONE'S HEART. Jesus or Jehoshua said at Matthew 6:24““No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other...” All it takes is the worship of one idol or false god to cause a division in one’s heart away from loving Jehovoe the true God exclusively. Our heart would become at least divided, and we would no longer love Jehovoe as we should, as he said the greatest commandment of the Law was that we “37...must love Jehovoe your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment.” (MATth 22:37,38). Thus we cannot, and must not try, to slave for two masters—rather we should love Jehovoe the true God, our Creator and Life-giver, the One we owe “life and breath and all things”—and give Him our exclusive worship. Any form of idolatry, whether it be a literal idol, or any other thing that can be worshipped, such as a famous person (which may nevertheless have great respect), or even some hobby or activity we may devote our lives to (while ignoring the will of God), would affect our lives negatively, even dramatically. Psalm 115 describes such idolatry, explaining that such idols may have eyes, but they cannot see, and ears, but cannot hear, and so on--but how so? Such idols claiming worship are at least spiritually dead, not able to see, hear, or speak divine truth. Psalm 115:8-9 then says “ 8 The people who make them will become just like them, As will all those who trust in them. 9 O Israel, trust in Jehovoe —He is their help and their shield.” While God is reasonable, and encourages wise and reasonable efforts to take precautions and seek help from others, still wants us to daily look to Him as our supreme help and protection. Psalm 127:1 says “1 Unless Jehovoe builds the house, It is in vain that its builders work hard on it. Unless Jehovoe guards the city, It is in vain that the guard stays awake.”

IN MARRIAGE. Also, marriage is one area where idolatry can “rear [or, “raise”] it’s ugly head.” To keep the relationship close between husband and wife, Jehovoe needs to be in the marriage. As Solomon wrote, a “threefold cord cannot quickly be torn apart.” (ECCle 4:12). As we’ve seen, any form of idolatry can cause spiritual blindness, and prevent either partner from recognizing problems and solutions within the marriage. This matter is to be taken seriously, as is giving Jehovoe the honor and place in our hearts that He deserves. Most marriages that have ended, probably have involved some sort of idolatry. For further insight, see the article “Fortify Your Marriage by Rejecting Idolatry” elsewhere on this website.

GOD'S FAVOR. What a blessing is in store for giving Jehovoe the exclusive devotion he deserves! Rather than receiving “punishment for the error of fathers upon sons” when we fail to love Him as we should, we would instead receive “loyal love to the thousandth generation of those who love [Jehovoe] and keep [His] commandments!” May we thus draw close to Jehovoe, as He in turn draws close to us, and continue learning how to serve Him properly. (James 4:8). What He asks of us is really for our own benefit, and the benefit of all peace-loving persons, to cause us true unity, love, and happiness eternally!

TEN COMMANDMENTS

Let’s consider Exodus 20:7, as the Third of the Ten Commandments--Misuse of God's Name

“7 “You must not misuse the name of Jehovoe your God in an unworthy way, for Jehovoe will not leave unpunished the one who misuses His name.””

NOT MISUSING GOD'S NAME. So what is meant by taking up God’s name “in a worthless way?” Let’s compare other Bible translations. One says this: “You must not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse His name.” (NLT, New Living Translation). King James Version says “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain...” By comparing these, we can see that we must not worship the true God Jehovoe in a false way, intending to misrepresent Him in any way. With imperfection, unintentional mistakes are understandable. Many newer ones to the Christian path have just begun to learn, but are making significant changes in their thinking and habits! However, there are some who know the truth about God, even how to do what is right before Him. They repeat this information to others in a religious setting, and appear, even claim, to be the most faithful of men, but then, out of public eye, they often choose to violate His laws and even intentionally practice outright evil! They do almost whatever they think they can get away with--what a reproach to Jehovoe's name! For this reason, Jesus warned his followers about the religious leaders of his day, as we read at Matthew 23:1-3: “23 Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of Moses. 3 Therefore, all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but they do not practice what they say.” Rather than humbly serving God faithfully, these men were arrogantly lifting themselves up over others, claiming greatness before God. This haughty attitude was actually sinful in itself, although leading to further sin and, if unchecked, a terrible fall. Proverbs 21:4 says “ 4 Haughty eyes and an arrogant heart —The lamp that guides the wayward is sin.” And Proverbs 16:18 says “18 Egopride is before a crash, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.”

PONDER TO HEED. The importance of pondering over God’s word or spiritual instruction as it is read or heard cannot be overstated. The divine truth of God is not about mere “head knowledge,” but one must convince his heart to heed divine instruction, to consider how to apply it in everyday life, for the benefit of others and oneself. Prayer for God's blessing on one's spiritual intake should be taken seriously. Also, perhaps each paragraph of instruction should accompany reflection upon it, to ensure proper understanding of it’s benefits and application. At least two questions should be occasionally asked to gain the most from study material. The first is “Why is this instruction beneficial, and perhaps beautiful, or to be appreciated?” The second is, “How do I apply this information in my personal life, for the benefit of others and myself?” Thus in short, "Why B&B?" and "How apply?" Thoughtfully considering such things should help the material to penetrate our heart, where it will move us to act upon it. May we thus choose the right things to study, things upholding God’s word and it’s beneficial truths. While we may reasonably choose balanced entertainment to enjoy, Philippians 4:8 overviews standards evidently for the type of material a congregation of God should give spiritual attention to in a meeting for worship. It is good to be aware of these beneficial standards. We read: “8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever virtue there is, and whatever praiseworthy thing there is, continue considering these things.” May we thus take seriously the things we feed our minds and hearts upon, that we not be persuaded away from the truth of God leading to true peace, happiness, and love, with eternity in view!

On post 3B, added (4A) Psalm 119 Preview of Stanzas 15-19, and on post 3C, added (7) Proverbs B, chapter 17 verses 15-20, PR-B(17.5). On the 8-Day this is March or Shuay the 2nd, which is the actual beginning of Spring, again by the 8-Day Calendar! So the winter does end a little sooner than perhaps in times past as God has willed it, despite a trick that was causing it to appear to be sooner than it should have been. We are now currently about 1 1/4 months difference between the 7-Day and 8-Day Calendars, but it may be best to continue with the 7-Day this year in the U.S., until we can build enough consensus to switch with much of the world to the current or true 400-day calendar; we would be off about 2 months by year's end. LAST MONTH 2026 02/12 SPECIAL ADDITIONS AND NOTES NOTE : God's name in some places uses the ( ) for the last letter z. I had found out that a long time ago God actually gave permission to use His name without the plural 'z' ending. Still, He is 'the First and the Last', 'the Alpha and the Omega', 'the A and the Z'. In the case of 'Jehovah(z)', it evidently is still the case, although there is something else to add to this, in the article on the Names of God and His Son; look for this coming up.

LAST MONTH 2026 01/12 SPECIAL ADDITIONS AND NOTES (7) Proverbs B, chapter 16 verses 29-33 (conclusion of chapter 16), PR-B(16.7) . Planning tomorrow new posts to include Proverbs A as well or at least Stanza 11 of Psalm 119. A side note: You may notice that the 8-day calendar is the end of the month, Lunarday, abbreviated Lnr. To be clear, Lunarday would normally be a New Moon, not a Full Moon. At one time, GOD had the moon phases lining up with the 8-day calendar, so that the 33/34 day month was the moon's cycle, and the moon phases were always on the weekends--new moon, quarter/first-half moon, full moon, etc. At some point He dropped that when we weren't yet acknowledging the new calendar. But this is something He can or will do when we do begin to recognize it more officially, as other countries have around the world. We are still in the midst of Winter in the U.S., even though Baseball Spring training camp began some time ago, and some were beginning to wonder if it was going to become a Winter sport. Proverbs B posted. Update to Notes above. Update to Proverbs 16, verse 33. Further. NOTE : God's name in some places uses the ( ) for the last letter z.

Thus 2026 2C/12 will start the title. Updated the List of Foundational Articles under (PA) Persistent Articles, returned to 6th place the article Realities of God's Government and Beneficial Standards--some may recall that this was really my 5th article, but in the podcast Win-it Minute Season 2 (WM2 R04.199.200 Introduction Season 2, on Spotify) I did insert the Policy article on More Enjoyable Work as an example policy, so that is the order I chose to post them on this blogpost. With Realities now article 6 (originally 5), that made the Kingdom and the U.S. article number 7 (which was considerably more recent) and now I've added the one even more recent as number 8, Seeking God's Peaceable Kingdom--Paradise . We musn't forget where we were not long ago, and not let go of where we need to be, going! I also left up (7) Proverbs B, chapter 16 verses 29-33, PR-B(16.7) , with updates.

Also, Adding to Calendar Table below, and later the (4A) Psalm 119 Review Stanzas 5-8. Mistake was on Calendar table, you may have noticed in didn't yet add much more to what was done on Sunday, it was that the extra day Himzday was shown on month 2 rather than 3, because normally that day does fall around the end of March/beginning of April, but this year, because the calendars are already 31 days off, that day ends up being in early May instead, end of month 3 new calendar. It will all be corrected soon on this Calendar Table, and I apologize for any inconvenience. Let God help with any corrections that may be needed if some advanced, again they would be between that day April 08 and the day it should be, early May. Further explanation may be found below, with the updated explanation on 26:01.08. Added (4A) Psalm 119 Review of Stanzas 5-8. (26:01.09 Riz or y.109 or :1.9, o2/9/26 Mon 7:54 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! Added (3) Proverbs A, chapter 1 verses 20-23, PR-A(01.4) . (26:01.08 Fwn or y.108 or :1.08, o 2/8/26 Sun 6:27,34; 7:53,56; 8:12; 10:13 am; 2:37 pm EST) Hello, wishing all well! Working on some things, I may adjust the plan not to normally post on Sundays, or at least Righzdays, the start of the 8-day workweek the second week (after a 2-day weekend) which leads to/makes possible the following 4-day or so weekend, still with typically 5-day workweeks with a longer year of some 400-days, which is real and current, not just a possibility or something imagined. The 7-day calendar is now off the real calendar by some 31 days or so, but the weekdays are still close to lining up together, and plans could be made to incorporate or transition, although it's believed that scheduled times are best changed about a month or a month and a half out, rather than so many so soon. With that view, then it turns out that next month, actually March and Peasamake (2nd month 8-Day Cal.) would be the time the calendars once again line up or merge Mar 22 (Sunday and Sonaday) for an entire week or two, being a good time for transition. Events scheduled March 22 through the weekend March 28-29, could be lined up with mid-Peasamake the 17th through the 24th (recall every month on 8-Day is 4 weeks 1-8,9-16,17-24,25-32 plus 1-2 days 33 or 34 long), then the next week both workweeks line up, Righzday through Thunderzday or Thunzday, leading NOT in this case (4X per year) to the 6-day but rather to the normal end-of-month 5-day weekending break, the 4-days plus just Lunarday, the 33rd, after Fanday the 32nd of the month, with Sonaday, following as the 1st of the next month, Shuay, but also a normal day off like Sunday. The special 6-day breaks conclude months 3,5,9 and 11 (Thanksgiving weekend), and this year month 3, because the calendars are already off by some 31 days, is not some days after March but after April, into May. Update. UPDATED THE TABLE AT PAGE BOTTOM FOR NEW CALENDAR TRANSITION , More will be filled in, later today. [Originally the Calendar Table showed month 2, April 8 as a Himzday, one of the 34-day months occurring 4X per year. This was corrected later to month 3, there being over 30 days difference between the 7-day and 8-day calendars that month this year.] (26:01.06 Stz or y.106 or :1.06, o 2/6/26 Fri 7:41,58 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! Planning the post of the new year/Month sometime later this morning, at least the START page/post. Also, the potential for a new podcast work this year, called Winit100, is being considered and may be released, just 100 seconds, a stand-alone rather than part of a weekly theme, although it's possible for more than one to be related or tie together in some way. This would usually relate some thing(s) presented on the website to some news item of interest. This is not to detract from larger interests, however. The plan is for 3X per week, usually every other weekday/workday. Stay tuned...Posted New 2026 blogposts 1-3.
