CHRISTIAN SMALL LETTER HIGHLIGHTS

APPRECIATING BIBLE TRUTH, REPENTING, GROWING SPIRITUALLY

RECEIVE ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE. 2Peter 1:2-4 highlights "accurate knowledge," reminding us of the true unity that is possible if we humbly accept God's instruction and apply it in our personal lives. Peter is likely writing primarily to those with heavenly hopes, to share in "divine nature," but these words can encourage all to treasure devotion to God in a close, personal relationship with Him, as we grow in the accurate knowledge of God and His purpose involving Christ, to find peace in our lives by God's undeserved kindness, with precious promises of eternal life. These verses read: "2 May undeserved kindness and peace be increased to you by an accurate knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 for his divine power has granted us all the things that contribute to life and godly devotion through the accurate knowledge of the One who called us by his own glory and virtue. 4 Through these things he has granted us the precious and very grand promises, so that through these you may become sharers in divine nature, having escaped from the world’s corruption produced by wrong desire." God's word instructs, at Galatians 5:16: "Keep walking by spirit and you will carry out no ungodly desire at all." May we turn away wrong desires, satisfying our right desires in harmony with God's love and reasonableness, as He can help us find all we need in life to be truly content and happy, including true friends and for most, a loyal marriage partner, with an understanding of right standards to live by, peaceably with others. May we always treasure God's loyal love toward us by seeking to ever please Him, walking with Him toward eternal life, alongside others, as God "does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance." (2PEter 3:9).

SPIRITUAL GROWTH. 2Peter 1:5-8 contains crucial steps to spiritual development. Let’s remark as we go through each one. The foundation is our faith, or thankful trust, primarily in Jehovoe God, and His Son Jehoshua (Joshua) [Jesus' more accurate given name, and original designation in English], God’s word, and this one's ransom sacrifice. Having such, we would come to trust also in God's Kingdom to truly solve mankind's problems. Built on faith, other attributes are needed. The verses read as follows: “5 For this very reason, put forth all earnest effort to supply to your faith virtue (godly attributes such as purity of heart, and true hope), to your virtue knowledge (including knowledge of God’s law through Christ), 6 to your knowledge self-control (needed to obey God’s law), to your self-control endurance (to obey over time through trials), to your endurance godly devotion (close attachment to Jehovoe personally), 7 to your godly devotion brotherly affection (pure friendship with other God-fearing persons), to your brotherly affection love (unselfishness looking for best interests of all, in harmony with godly wisdom). 8 For if these things exist in you and overflow, they will prevent you from being either inactive or unfruitful regarding the accurate knowledge of our Lord Jehoshua Christ.”

EYES OPEN TO SCRIPTURAL TRUTH. 2Peter 1:9-11 refers to not shutting our eyes to the light, so that we do not lack the qualities mentioned in the previous verses, such as divine knowledge, self-control, and godly devotion. If we close our eyes to the light of Scriptural truth, we can be truly blind, not able to see dangers right in front of us. These verses read as follows: “9 For anyone lacking these things is blind, shutting his eyes to the light, and has become forgetful of his cleansing from his sins of long ago. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and choosing sure for yourselves, for if you keep on doing these things, you will by no means ever fail. 11 In fact, in this way you will be richly granted entrance into the everlasting Kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jehoshua Christ.” As we learn to serve God properly, may we likewise encourage others to do so, assisting them, including our precious children, according to their ability, to make spiritual progress. Thus we will be reminded of the steps we took to grow spiritually, and that we should not forget or take for granted, but maintain our firm hold on our hope and faith in God and Jesus.

MOTIVATION TO REPENTANCE. Peter's words read this way: "Beloved ones, this is now the second letter I am writing you in which, as in my first one, I am stirring up your clear thinking faculties by way of a reminder, 2 that you should remember the sayings previously spoken by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. 3 First of all know this, that in the last days ridiculers will come with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep in death, all things are continuing exactly as they were from creation’s beginning.” Peter goes on to remind Christians that such ones "deliberately ignore this fact, that long ago there were heavens and an earth standing firmly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; 6 and that by those means the world of that time suffered destruction when it was flooded with water." Therefore, just as God judged an evil, violent world in Noah's day, so He has looked to remove evil in our day, for the happiness of all who will love real peace and joy. (PROve 2:20-22). May ones yet unaware of God's wisdom repent of any such thoughts and activity, being remorseful over any disappointing and harmful conduct, that God may bless their sincere repentance, and help them find true happiness in life, perhaps even with a loyal marriage partner to share life with in the coming new world. May as many as possible appreciate God's mercy and love for his human family, and respond accordingly, seeking to please our loving God by careful obedience and adherence to His wise and loving standards.

CHRISTIAN SMALL LETTER SELECTION

TAKE MATTERS TO GOD, SHOW KINDNESS

FAITH, ENDURANCE. 2Thessalonians 1:4-5 highlights the endurance and faith, especially of those chosen to rule with Christ in the Kingdom. They receive a scourging before God in discipline and training, to truly be worthy of their privilege to rule. Enduring persecutions and hardships faithfully, they learn vital Christian qualities and principles of truth that will serve them well in their role as kings and priests before mankind, lovingly assisting humans to grow in their relationship with God and others. All can follow such examples of faith and endurance. This is all after the example of Christ, as at 1Peter 2:21-23, revealing "21 In fact, to this course you were called, because even Christ suffered for you, leaving a model for you to follow his steps closely. 22 He committed no sin, nor was deception found in his mouth. 23 When he was being insulted, he did not insult in return. When he was suffering, he did not threaten, but he entrusted himself to the One who judges righteously." Verses 4-5 of 2Thessalonians read this way: "As a result we ourselves take pride in you among the congregations of God because of your endurance and faith in all your persecutions and the hardships that you are suffering. 5 This is a proof of the righteous judgement of God, leading to your being counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you are indeed suffering."

KINDNESS, FEED HUNGRY. Thus we should look to God if we are having to cope with any sort of suffering, especially from others, as Romans 12:17-21 says "Return evil for evil to no one. Take into consideration what is fine from the viewpoint of all men. 18 If possible, as far as it depends on you, be peaceable with all men. 19 Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: “‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says Jehovoe.” 20 But “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by doing this you will heap fiery coals on his head.” 21 Do not let yourself be conquered by the evil, but keep conquering the evil with the good." What about the heaping of "fiery coals"? These were used to soften metal, to make it workable. Thus, good works toward wrongdoers can soften or melt their stubbornness of pride, perhaps leading to their genuine repentance. Thus, may we "keep conquering the evil with the good."

NOT FALLING TO LIES, BUT ENDURING FAITHFULLY.

SEEK TRUTH, NOT TO BE MISLED. 2Thessalonians 2:9-12 continues mention of a lawless one, who deceives many from true rightdoing (integrity) and true worship. Verses 9-12 read this way: "9 But the lawless one’s presence is by the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and wonders 10 and every wrongful deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth in order that they might be saved. 11 That is why God lets a deluding influence mislead them so that they may come to believe the lie, 12 in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in depravity." How vital to be truth seekers, reading God's word diligently so as not to be misled from the truth of God, by those who would claim to know God's word but tell religious lies, seeking their own glory and benefit. (John 7:18; 1Peter 5:2,3). May we not be deluded by "every powerful work and lying signs and wonders" causing ones to be led astray from the truth of God. As Jehoshua (Jesus) said, at Matthew 7:21-23: "“Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the Kingdom of the heavens, but only the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day: ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them: ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’" May Christian ministers humbly embrace Bible truth as it is revealed to them. Let us all ensure we are doing the true will of God, including what we read at 1Timothy 2:4, "whose will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth."

GUIDED TO LOVE AND ENDURANCE. 2Thessalonians 3:5 shows two important aims of true Christians: "May the Lord continue to guide your hearts successfully to the love of God and to the endurance for the Christ." Love for God and others, while vital for true Christians, takes time to learn, and should be shown in harmony with godly wisdom, promoting integrity to God and His standards. Such love is to endure into eternity, to the glory of the God who "is love," Jehovoe!

_____(6) Christian Law-Lall of God

_____CLG[1]

CHRISTIAN LAW-LALL OF GOD

CHRISTIAN STANDARD: UPHOLD HONEST INTEGRITY--AIM TO LET YES MEAN YES, NO MEAN NO, ESPECIALLY AS REGARDS ANY GODLY OATH.

Let’s now consider Exodus 22:10-13: “10 “If a man gives his fellow man a donkey or a bull or a sheep or any domestic animal to keep and it dies or gets maimed or gets led away while nobody is looking, 11 there should be an oath made between them before Jehovoe, that he did not lay his hand on the goods of his fellow man; and the owner must accept it. The other man is not to make compensation. 12 But if the animal has been stolen from him, he is to make compensation to its owner. 13 If it was torn by a wild animal, he is to bring it as evidence. He is not to make compensation for something torn by a wild animal.”

AN OATH BETWEEN NEIGHBORS. Verse 10-11 Here we have another instance where a possession of one person enters into the care of another. This law involves just animals, which of course, as opposed to cash money or some material object, can be more subject to outside influences, such as other animals while grazing, etc. If something should happen to the animal outside of the control of the keeper of it, then an oath was to be made between the two neighbors, that the man did nothing to harm or take his fellow man’s property, and no compensation for the animal was necessary in this instance. Of course, this "oath" was not to be taken lightly, just to get out of responsibility for the animal. Among the seven things that God's word says Jehovoe HATES, are both a "lying tongue" and even a person that becomes a "false witness who lies with every breath." (Prove 6:16-19). Certainly God can know the truth and hold someone accountable for any such lie or false oath. So why not own up to the mistake, speak the truth, and look to God for help to provide whatever is necessary to make amends or to remedy the problem. In fact, Acts 3:19 shows that to really begin receiving God's blessing, one must "Repent, and turn around, so as to get your sins blotted out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the person of Jehovoe." Thus simply saying one is sorry is not usually the end of the matter. Being truly sorry, and doing one's best to repair any harm that was done, is more accurately God's will for one having made a mistake. And God desires that all "attain repentance," adopting the inclination to repent and correct wrongs that may be made, hopefully without intention.

TAKING RESPONSIBILITY. Verse 12-13 Here we find what God’s view is if an animal is stolen, but there is no evidence to enable the thief to be found, to require compensation from him/her. Evidently, in this instance, the keeper of the animal was to make compensation, likely from one of his own animals. Thus, responsibility for holding something of a person temporarily was to be taken seriously, with a willingness to compensate for it if it is stolen and the thief is not found. However, God’s law was reasonable, so that other things that may happen to it outside of the person’s control, usually required no compensation—only the person’s oath before God that they sought no harm to the animal. Such was the case when the creature was torn by a wild animal and killed. The evidence of this still needed to be presented. Of course, God would hold a person accountable for a false oath, as He hates a “lying tongue” (Prove 6:16,17).

FAIR AND REASONABLE. Clearly, the Mosaic Law promoted fairness and reasonableness, taking various circumstances under consideration in the judgment to be rendered. Likewise, Philippians 4:5 says “5 Let your reasonableness become known to all men...” Yes, while God has some laws which we must respect and keep, even as true Christians, primarily Christianity involves acknowledging principles of truth in the fear of God, learning to hate what he hates, and loving what is good. For instance, loving God then others as oneself, while a command, helps us do the right thing for others without requiring a lengthy list of do’s and dont’s. May we continue to practice the law of love in our dealings with God and others, seeking their eternal welfare and happiness in harmony with God’s delightful will!
