2018 Nov 26 Psalms, 1John 1
Hello to everyone! Let's take a look into Psalms and 1John today. We'll start with Book 1 of Psalms, Psalm 26:1-5.
Psalm 26 David opens with what should be our determination, as we purify our hearts to please and serve God:
"1 Judge me, O Jehovah, for I have walked in my integrity; In Jehovah I have trusted without wavering."Integrity is wholeness or completeness without corruption. Have we made up our minds to be on God's side, doing right by Him each day we live? What blessings are in store for those walking in integrity, holding a good conscience, and aligning that conscience as we absorb the truth from God's word!
The psalmist continues: "2 Examine me, O Jehovah, and put me to the test; Refine my innermost thoughts and my heart. For your loyal love is always in front of me, and I walk in your truth." God's loyal love is a powerful force for us to bring our lives in harmony with the truth, as we seek to love Him in return. 1John 5:3 says "For this is what the love of God means, that we observe His commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome." Thus we're moved to walk in God's truth.
David appreciated the importance of guarding his associations from selfish, deceitful, evil men, as he states in verses 4,5; "4 I do not associate with deceitful men, And I avoid those who hide what they are. 5 I hate the company of evil men, And I refuse to associate with the wicked." In our case, this would include who we invite into our living rooms on television, or into our company in a movie theater, for instance, if selfish, evil men are made to appear as heroes. May we safeguard our hearts, our relationship with God and with others by clinging to God, listening to His instruction and being careful who we invite into our close company.
Psalm 67 (Book 2, 26th psalm) shows God will help us that we may learn about him. Notice verses 1,2: "God will show us favor and bless us; He will make his face shine upon us (Selah) 2 So that your way may be known throughout the earth, Your acts of salvation among all the nations." Jehovah God may even have touched us personally, saving us from a wrong course in life, providing us hope. Notice verse 4: "Let nations rejoice and shout joyfully, For you will judge the peoples fairly. You will guide the nations of the earth." Yes, the "Judge of all the earth" will make sure that people will be judged fairly, and He will guide the nations to eternal life, giving reason to "rejoice and shout joyfully!"
1John 1 alerts us to what it means to be close to God. 1John 1:5-7 says: "This is the message that we heard from him and are announcing to you: God is light, and there is no darkness at all in him.6 If we make the statement, “We are having fellowship with him,” and yet we go on walking in the darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth.7 However, if we are walking in the light as he himself is in the light, we do have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." May we love the light of truth, and walk accordingly, hating the darkness that prevents others from seeing the truth, threatening their eternal life. May we shine the light of truth for others to see the beauty of God's love and His word of truth.
