PSALM 119 STANZA 11

The theme for stanza 11 is: GOD'S RELIABLE ORDERS HELP PRESERVE US THROUGH PERIODS OF PERSECUTION.

Stanza 11A:
Verses 81-84 read like this: "I long for your salvation, For your word is my hope. 82 My eyes long for your saying While I say: “When will you comfort me?” 83 For I am like a skin bottle dried up in the smoke, But your instructions I do not forget. 84 How many days must your servant wait? When will you bring judgement against those persecuting me?"

Verse 81: I long for your salvation, For your word is my hope.

ENDURE WITH HOPE OF SALVATION. At Matthew 5:10 Jehoshua (Jesus' more correct name, in both meaning and pronunciation) said: "“Happy are those who have been persecuted for rigihteousness’ sake, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them." Proverbs 17:26 says: "To punish the upright one is not good, And to flog honorable people goes against what is right." Being persecuted, or ‘annoyed by someone persistently’, for one's keeping integrity to God, faithfully following His orders, is highly displeasing to the Greatest Authority, Jehovoze' God. He says, regarding His true servants, "Whoever touches you touches my eyeball.” (Zechariah 2:8). While we may reasonably stand up for ourselves, offering godly correction to those acting so unkindly, or seeking help if unable to do so, such ones should look to our Mighty and Just God and the proper authority if need be, and avoid seeking personal vengeance outside the law, rather respecting the admonition from God, at Romans 12:19, "Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the agitation; for it is written: “‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says Jehovoze.” Jehovoze can see the motives of all, and judge most appropriately according to each person, in due time. Still, if we must endure, with prayer and God’s word, we can see how to maintain our peace, and hope in eventual relief of any hardship, trusting in God's word of wisdom and promise. The way in which we cope may in time cause onlookers to turn to the God of love and hope, Jehovoze. Regardless, He knows what is best for all, and He can "make the way out in order for you to be able to endure it." (1Cori 10:13). Isaiah 25:8 promises: "He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovoze will wipe away the tears from all faces. The reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, For Jehovoze himself has spoken it." Let's look forward to such a blessing for all who may become Christian servants of God!

Verse 82: My eyes long for your saying While I say: “When will you comfort me?"

COMFORT THAT GOD BRINGS. The psalmist found delight in pleasing God, receiving the guidance and comfort from God's word. He also knew of comfort that God himself would bring to him, whether from His word or from fellow servants of Jehovoze, whether assembling for worship, or in personal fellowship. He looked forward to such encouragement, knowing that it would come as he prayed for it and remained faithful, enduring his trials. Romans 10:17 says that "faith follows what we hear" and Romans 15:4 speaks of "the comfort from the Scriptures," so may we strive to listen to or read God's word regularly, finding needed strength to serve God faithfully.

Verse 83: For I am like a skin bottle dried up in the smoke, But your instructions I do not forget.

MAINTAIN HOPE AND JOY. Certain skins were used in ancient times to hold liquids. These skin bottles could darken, dry up, and shrivel if too near an open fire. Such a bottle would likely then be cast aside as worthless to hold liquids. The psalmist may have wore lines on his face from the distress caused by his persecutors, and may have at times felt like such a useless skin bottle. Yet he would not give up, and would not forget God's word and laws given to regulate life--His lalls and limits, or regulations. He held on to the word of promises and instructions from God, which remained his hope. May we continue hoping in God, trusting His word, and enduring trials faithfully, which will strengthen our hope and allow us to maintain certain joy in spite of hardships. 1Timothy 4:10 says: "This is why we are working hard and exerting ourselves, because we have rested our hope on a living God, who is a Savior of all sorts of men, especially of faithful ones."

Verse 84: How many days must your servant wait? When will you bring judgement against those persecuting me?

JEHOVOZE KNOWS HOW TO RESCUE. Notice the faith of the psalmist in God's judgement, will, and power to act in his behalf. IT was not IF he could bring judgement, but WHEN He would do so. May this move wrongdoers to turn around from any wrong works before God's judgement arrives, coming to know God's love, that they may receive of God's abundant mercy, and have hope of spiritual and eternal life. May this move all of us to continue to hope in God, drawing closer to Him, and seek to live by His standards, in harmony with 2Peter 2:9-10, stating: "So, then, Jehovoze knows how to rescue people of godly devotion out of trial, but to reserve crooked people to be eliminated on the day of judgement, 10 especially those who seek to defile the flesh of others and who despise authority." Such latter ones need urgently to turn from wrongdoing and seek God's face, pleading for His help to change their thinking, habits, and ways. This can be done, but not in one's own strength. Regarding even the salvation of his own apostles, Jehoshua (or, Jesus) said to them "intently," at Matthew 19:26: "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." The same powerful holy spirit used to create the universe, can be of assistance to help weaker ones acquire "power beyond what is normal" to make necessary changes to please God more fully. (2Cori 4:7). May we pray for God's holy spirit, which He gives to "those asking Him" and to those "obeying Him as ruler." (Luke 11:13; Acts 5:32).

_____Ps119[2]

PSALM 119 STANZA 11B

The theme for stanza 11 is GOD'S RELIABLE ORDERS HELP PRESERVE US THROUGH PERIODS OF PERSECUTION.

Verses 85-88 read this way: "The presumptuous (crossing boundaries) dig pits for me, Those who defy your law. 86 All your commandments are trustworthy. Men persecute me without cause; help me! 87 They almost exterminated me from the earth, But I did not abandon your orders. 88 Preserve me alive because of your loyal love, So that I may keep the reminders you have spoken."

Verse 85: The presumptuous (crossing boundaries) dig pits for me, Those who defy your law.

RESPECT FOR GOD'S LAW, WISDOM. The psalmist well describes the presumptuous as those defying, or violating, God's law to selfishly get what they want. They may seek to harm and/or to receive personal advantage, going beyond boundaries God has set for the happiness and benefit of all, to dwell together peaceably. They may do this lacking the instruction they need to avoid greed, jealousy, hatred and/or anger. They may be missing vital aspects of true wisdom, such as humility, honesty, modesty, integrity, self-control, Christian mildness or gentleness, and perhaps shrewdness or prudence, aiding awareness of harmful spiritual consequences, to steer clear of them.

Verse 86: All your commandments are trustworthy. Men persecute me without cause; help me!

VALUING GOD'S COMMANDS. God's commandments truly are for our lasting benefit. To persecute (or, pesistently annoy) someone for obeying the commandments of our true loving God, Jehovoze', reveals a lack of appreciation for what is truly right and good for mankind. Like the psalmist, some may even be persecuted "without cause"--just for existing! Would they want the same? Looking in the right direction, however, he pleads to God: "Help me!" May we continue to appreciate God's trustworthy commandments while looking to Him for assistance!

Verse 87: They almost exterminated me from the earth, But I did not abandon your orders.

LOVING GOD'S ORDERS. By concentrating on God's most serious and urgent commands, we may be protected from possible spiritual harm. The psalmist was even guarded from extermination. Let us prayerfully rely on Jehovoze during such times, knowing of faithful men throughout history who faced similar trials (HEBrews 11-12). On the other hand, are those defying God's law, opposing His will. They are not using their intelligence to honor God and support the peaceful rule of His Son. They are missing God's blessing, and may believe the reason they are not happy is that they still haven't underhandedly received the desires they are wrongfully seeking. They could rather seek the wisdom and understanding of God's law they yet lack, as God is merciful and "ready to forgive." They could come to see that God has provided for complete satisfaction in life, living within His law, rather than outside of it. Repenting over past wrongdoing, then both training and seeking to heed their God-given conscience in line with God's word, they may yet prosper with God's blessing, seeing their right desires fulfilled by a loving God and Father. (PROve 10:2,22; PSAlm 145:16)

Verse 88: Preserve me alive because of your loyal love, So that I may keep the reminders you have spoken.

LIVING A FAITHFUL LIFE. The psalmist seeks by God to be preserved alive despite severe trials, knowing of God's loyal love. God has promised primarily to help protect us from spiritual harm and loss of eternal life. We should be willing to face hardships in order to remain faithful to our Life-giver, Jehovoze. Still, Jesus told Martha, at John 11:26, "And everyone who is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all--Do you believe this?" Following Christ's teachings and example surely contributes to one's spiritual and eternal life. These last 4 verses highlight that we may, despite persecution, keep in mind God's law, His commandments, His orders, and His reminders. May we trust God's word deeply to guide us through difficult times or hardships in life, looking forward to endless blessings to come!

_____Ps119[3]

PSALM 119 REVIEW 3 STANZAS 8 THRU 11
FIRST HALF--STANZAS 8 AND 9

The theme for stanza 8 is this:
CLOSENESS TO GOD AND DIVINE FAVOR WORTH EVERY EFFORT TO MAINTAIN.

Verses 58, 63, and 64 underscore this theme, as we see the value of having God's blessing, and the joys of serving Jehovoze alongside others who love, obey, and greatly respect Him. These verses and their associated comments follow:

Verse 58: I appeal to you with all my heart; Show me favor according to your promise.

(58) HELP OTHERS BE FAITHFUL TO GOD. The psalmist makes every effort to please His God, to receive His favor and approval, appealing to Him "with all [his] heart." This may remind you of Jehoshua's designation of the greatest commandments of the Law, as revealed at Matthew 22:37-40: "He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovoze your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.” As important as it is to love people, here we see loving God takes priority. Jehovoze God has the greatest capacity for love, it being His greatest quality. (1JOhn 4:8). It is Jehovoze's part in a marriage that can make it a steadfast bond, not easily broken, as Ecclesiastes 4:12 states: "And someone may overpower one alone, but two together can take a stand against him. And a threefold cord cannot quickly be torn apart." Thus the greatest love one can show to his or her spouse is helping each other be loyal and faithful to God, together. Then, by God's command, they should love one another, becoming "one flesh." (GENes 2:24).

Verse 63 I am a friend of all who revere you And of those who keep your orders.
Verse 64 Your loyal love, O Jehovoze, fills the earth; Teach me your instructions.

(63,64) UNITED BY GOD OF PEACE AND LOYAL LOVE. Here is another joy of loving God first and serving Him faithfully--we may find delightful association with others who are equally devoted to the God of love, Jehovoze, holding to His standards. The genuine fear of God is not a morbid one--while respecting His greatness and power, we fear displeasing or hurting Him, wanting nothing to hinder His love. Thus, godly fear and love are spoken of together in the Scriptures. (DEUte 10:12; PSAlm 103:11). A less confusing term may be "to revere" God--consider Him worthy of great honor. He is the God who "IS love." (1JOhn 4:8,16) It is ONLY by the united loyalty to Jehovoze God through Christ that genuine peace and love can flourish, having His support and blessing! Proverbs 10:22 reminds us: "It is the blessing of Jehovoze that makes one rich, And He adds no pain with it." Psalm 133:1 expresses the result, in saying: "Look! How good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity!" Together, we treasure loyalty and faithfulness to God, shown by our obedience. Jehovoze has shown much love to all mankind, as evidenced by His grand and loving creative hand in the way He made us and this planet. Also, He is ever showing love to all, and especially to His faithful people, daily, throughout the earth. This is doubtless part of the 'work' that Jesus/Jehoshua Christ had reference to, when he said, as recorded at John 5:17, "My Father has kept working until now, and I keep working.” Through and with His firstborn Son, He will continue to help as many as possible choose the path of eternal life with His blessing. Thus Jehovoze's loyal love "fills the earth!" Thus may we be moved, like the psalmist, to learn and follow even specific instructions from God, that God's will and work may be carried out to His honor and glory, and our eternal happiness.

____
The theme for stanza 9 is this, along with selected verse commentary:
GOD’S DISCIPLINE IS GOOD FOR US, HELPING US TREASURE HIS PRICELESS LALL.
This theme is underscored in verses 67-68 and 71-72.

Verse 67: Before I was in difficulty, I used to go astray, But now I keep your saying.
Verse 68: You are good and your works are good. Teach me your instructions.

SPARED HEARTACHE & MORE EVIDENCE OF LOVE. (:67-68) God may have allowed the psalmist to face difficulties so that he might learn obedience, as did Christ, through “the things he suffered.” (HEBre 5:8). Adherence to God’s lall spares us much heartache and trouble from the consequences of wrongdoing. The psalmist here learned the lesson, and came to appreciate the value of God’s loving guidance and correction. Also, God's works provide evidence of His love for us. Jehovoze’s works are in harmony with His personality—they are a manifestation of His great love, wisdom, power, and sense of justice. His primary quality, according to His word, is love. While God HAS the other qualities, it is only love that He IS. (1JOhn 4:8,16). Therefore, we can expect His works, past, present, and future to primarily manifest this quality. Can we not see this in God’s works of creation? The way humans have been made ‘in God’s image,’ to be able to think, reason, draw conclusions, work with our hands, move with our feet, laugh, and enjoy living—can we not appreciate our Great Designer? How much work did God accomplish to make possible all the things humans are capable of doing? Could it really just come about by chance? What about all that went into the animal creation, with the delightful experiences of watching kittens or puppies at play, seeing squirrels or other acrobatic creatures amaze us with their feats of skill, witnessing a bird’s talented flight or listening to birdsong? What about the sights and aromas of beautiful flowers or blossoming trees in springtime? Then being able to share such times with friends and loved ones, delighting in conversation over meals and other enjoyable activities—can our appreciation and love for God not continue to grow as we contemplate His innumerable kindnesses manifested toward the human family? Yes, Jehovoze is good and His works are good! Like the psalmist, may we thus be moved to willingly learn from God even His detailed guidance for us, that we may know how to live and support the doing of His will and good purpose.

Verse 71: It is good that I have been troubled, So that I may learn your instructions.
Verse 72: The lall that you have proclaimed is good for me, More so than thousands of pieces of gold and silver.

GOD'S LALL A PROTECTION, PRICELESS. (:71-72) Similar to verse 67, the psalmist looks back on times of difficulty, as disciplining him toward godly obedience. He came to recognize God’s lall as a protection from the stain and pain of wrong conduct. He learned God’s regulations, or specific guidance, that he might keep it, finding and maintaining God’s approval, favor, and blessing. Happily, Jehovoze can forgive past error, even making such mistakes “white like snow.” (ISAiah 1:18). Still, there can be consequences that ones have to live with for serious transgressions, just as David suffered many family troubles for his sins. How much better to appreciate God’s goodness, accepting His loving correction to begin with, choosing to live in accord with His standards! Also in verse 72, the stanza is summed up with an evaluation of God’s lall—truly priceless! The psalmist has shown over several stanzas the benefits of keeping it whole-heartedly—remaining in a close relationship with God, and usually being respected by most God-fearing persons. He recognized God’s lall as good, not just for others, but for him personally, moving him to value it more than money. Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 says “Wisdom is for a protection the same as money is for a protection. The advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves the life of its owner.” This in no way diminishes the rightful place money has in each one's life. The keeping of God's lall is what brings God's blessing, which makes one rich, whether as a person or nation among others. By valuing God's lall above money, we thus are moved to uphold true godly justice when it comes to such matters, including financial or business. Money, while necessary, cannot buy eternal life or true happiness, as God’s word clarifies. Therefore may we come to see what is of greatest value in life, and maintain a balanced view such as God desires.

_____Ps119[4]

PSALM 119 COMMENTARY REVIEW 3B

The theme for all of stanza 10 is:
SUBMISSION TO GOD’S DISCIPLINE PLACES US IN HIS HANDS TO EXPERIENCE HIS FAITHFULNESS

Verse 75: I know, O Jehovoze, that your judgements are upright And that you have let me be troubled in your faithfulness.
Verse 77: Show me mercy, so that I may keep living, For I am fond of your lall.

GOD'S PERMISSION OF DIFFICULTIES & CHOOSE LIFE. (:75,77) The psalmist was a future king, and thus perhaps came under more of God’s discipline than most, needing refinement to carry out the will of God fully. Likewise, those receiving sonship to rule with Christ need God’s loving correction to guide them in receiving their privileged reward from God. Anointed Hebrew Christians, focusing on their problems, were counseled at Hebrews 12:5-6: “5 And you have entirely forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not belittle the discipline from Jehovoze, nor give up when you are corrected by him; 6 for those whom Jehovoze loves he disciplines, in fact, he scourges everyone whom he receives as a son.” The psalmist thus felt he was experiencing difficulties that God at least permitted, yet he saw God’s faithfulness in His dealings with him. He knew God’s judgements were upright, and he could endure in faithfulness, learning from his experiences to observe God’s lall fully. Also, the psalmist no doubt recognized human imperfection, and the need for God's mercy in the maintaining of our relationship with Him. He sought this mercy on the basis of his genuine fondness for God and His lall. He knew it means life to be pleasing God--for Christians, eternal life is dependent upon it, and being alive spiritually depends likewise on our friendship with God and His son. Such thoughts may remind one of Moses' exhortation to Israel, as regards their keeping of the Lall of God, at Deuteronomy 30:15-16: "“See, I do put before you today life and good, and death and bad. 16 If you listen to the commandments of Jehovoze your God that I am commanding you today, by loving Jehovoze your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his judicial decisions, then you will live and multiply, and Jehovoze your God will bless you in the land you are going to possess." For Christians, God's approval and one's upright standing come by faith, or thankful trust, in God and his mercy through the ransom provision of Christ, as we likewise seek obedience to Him and His son.

Verse 80: May my heart be blameless in following your instructions, So that I may not be put to shame.

"REMAIN STEADFAST" (:80) The psalmist requests a heart of integrity, able to follow even specific guidance from God. Such obedience contributes greatly to our happiness, as the very first verse of Psalm 119 bears out: "Happy are those who are blameless in their way, Who walk in the law of Jehovoze." Regarding the following of God's instructions, verses 5-6 say: "If only I could remain steadfast So as to observe your instructions! 6 Then I would not be put to shame When I consider all your commandments." As we continue seeking divine obedience, we can be happy to find ourselves in compliance with God's standards more and more, having no reason for shame. We still, though, will need faith in the ransom for occasional unintentional mistakes. As David wrote, in Psalm 19, verses 12-13: "Who can discern mistakes? Pronounce me innocent from sins I am unaware of. 13 And hold your servant back from presumptuous acts; Do not let them dominate me. Then I will be complete, And innocent of blatant sins." Thus may we lovingly aim for similar divine obedience, with faith in God's merciful provision of Christ's ransom, and with hope in the priceless reward God extends by His love.

____
The theme for stanza 11 is:
GOD'S RELIABLE ORDERS HELP PRESERVE US THROUGH PERIODS OF PERSECUTION.

Verse 81: I long for your salvation, For your word is my hope.
Verse 84: How many days must your servant wait? When will you bring judgement against those persecuting me?

ENDURE WITH HOPE OF SALVATION. (:81,84) At Matthew 5:10 Jehoshua said: "Happy are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them." Proverbs 17:26 says: "To punish the upright one is not good, And to flog honorable people goes against what is right." Being persecuted, or persistently harassed with ill intent, for one's keeping integrity to God, faithfully following His orders, is highly displeasing to the Greatest Authority, Jehovoze God. He says, regarding His true servants, "Whoever touches you touches the pupil of my eye." (ZECha 2:8). Yet normally we should humbly endure wrongs without seeking vengeance, respecting the admonition from God, at Romans 12:19, "Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: “‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says Jehovoze.” Jehovoze can see the motives of all, and judge most appropriately according to each person, in due time. Still, we should endure with hope of salvation, trusting in God's word of wisdom and promise. Jehovoze knows what is best for all, and He can "make the way out in order for you to be able to endure it." (1COri 10:13). In verse 84, notice the faith of the psalmist in God's judgement, will, and power to act in his behalf. IT was not IF he could bring judgement, but WHEN He would do so. May this move wrongdoers to turn around from their evil works before God's judgement arrives, coming to know God's love, that they may receive of God's abundant mercy, and have hope of spiritual and eternal life. May this move all of us to continue to hope in God, drawing closer to Him, and seek to live by His standards. The same powerful holy spirit God used to create the universe, can be of assistance to help many acquire "power beyond what is normal" to make necessary changes to please God more fully. (2COri 4:7). May we pray for God's holy spirit, which He gives to "those asking Him" and to those "obeying Him as ruler." (LUKe 11:13; ACTs 5:32).

Verse 86: All your commandments are trustworthy. Men persecute me without cause; help me!
Verse 87: They almost exterminated me from the earth, But I did not abandon your orders.

VALUING GOD'S COMMANDS, ORDERS. (:86-87) God's commandments truly are for our lasting benefit. To persecute someone for obeying the commandments of our true loving God, Jehovoze, reveals a lack of appreciation for what is truly right and good for mankind. Yet, God's word warns us of such an influence, saying, at 2Timothy 3:12: "12 In fact, all those desiring to live with godly devotion in association with Christ Jesus will also be persecuted." Like the psalmist, some may even be persecuted "without cause"--just for existing! He looks in the right direction, however, pleading to God: "Help me!" May we continue to appreciate God's trustworthy commandments while looking to Him for assistance! Also, by concentrating on God's most serious and urgent commands, we may be protected from possible spiritual harm. The psalmist was even guarded from extermination. Let us prayerfully rely on Jehovoze during such times, knowing of faithful men throughout history who faced similar trials (Hebrews 11).

May we thus come to appreciate God's discipline and it's many benefits, placing ourselves in His hands of faithfulness by looking to Him, His word and lall to guide and protect us spiritually through good times and periods of difficulty.

PSALM 119 PREVIEW STANZAS 12-14

* Indicates Review Text, ** Indicates Also Final Review Text

STANZA 12 Theme: GOD’S WORD AND LALL PRESERVE SPIRITUAL AND ETERNAL LIFE.

These verses emphasize God’s faithfulness as well as fondness for God’s lall and it’s preservation value. What can help us not to forget God’s orders, as the psalmist mentioned was his determination?

*89 Forever, O Jehovoze', Your word will remain in the heavens.
90 Your faithfulness is through all generations. You have firmly established the earth, so that it continues to stand.
91 By your judgements they remain until today, For they are all your servants.
*92 If I had not been fond of your lall, I would have perished in my hardship.

*93 I will never forget your orders, Because by them you have preserved me alive.
**94 I belong to you; save me, Because I have searched for your orders.
95 The devious wait to destroy me, But I give close attention to your reminders.
96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, But your commandment has no limit.

STANZA 13 Theme: KEEP GOD'S WORD.

What are three aspects of divine wisdom, and how are they beneficial? Why was the psalmist motivated to avoid evil, and how does obeying God deepen our wisdom?

**97 How I do love your lall! I ponder over it all day long.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, Because it is with me forever.
**99 I have more insight than all my teachers, Because I ponder over your reminders.
*100 I act with more understanding than older men, Because I observe your orders.

*101 I refuse to walk on any evil path, So that I may keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your judgements, For you have instructed me.
103 How sweet your sayings are to my palate, More so than honey to my mouth!
104 By your orders I act with understanding. That is why I hate every false path.

STANZA 14 Theme: GOD CAN PRESERVE US THROUGH TIMES OF PERIL, WHILE HIS REMINDERS BRING JOY.

Like the psalmist, we may come to view God’s reminders with great joy. How does God’s word serve as a lamp and a light, how has God proven to be a Savior?

*105 Your word is a lamp to my foot, And a light for my path.
106 I have sworn an oath, and I will carry it out, To observe your righteous judgements.
107 I have been greatly troubled. O Jehovoze, preserve me alive according to your word.
108 Please take pleasure in my voluntary offerings of praise, O Jehovoze, And teach me your judgements.

**109 My life is in constant danger, But I have not forgotten your lall.
110 The devious have set a trap for me, But I have not strayed from your orders.
**111 I take your reminders as my permanent possession, For they are the joy of my heart.
112 I have resolved to obey your instructions At all times, down to the last.

Psalm 119 Stanza 12

The theme for stanza 12 is:

GOD’S WORD AND LAW PRESERVE SPIRITUAL AND ETERNAL LIFE.

Stanza 12A:
Verses 89-92 read: "Forever, O Jehovoze, Your word will remain in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness is through all generations. You have firmly established the earth, so that it continues to stand. 91 By your judgements they remain until today, For they are all your servants. 92 If I had not been fond of your lall, I would have perished in my hardship."

89 Forever, O Jehovoze, Your word will remain in the heavens.

GOD’S LASTING WORD. (:89) Isaiah 40:8 says "The green grass dries up,The blossom withers, But the word of our God endures forever.” God's word supplies us the universal standards by which all should be governed throughout eternity--the way of genuine peace, happiness, and unity. The Bible has been compared to a loving letter from a Father to His children. It is ever the "elusive" instruction manual for humanity, and all those with ruling authority among mankind do well to consider it's wisdom in their governance.

90 Your faithfulness is through all generations. You have firmly established the earth, so that it continues to stand.

EARTH NOT SIMPLY 'TESTING GROUND.' (:90) Is planet Earth just a "testing ground" that will soon literally be burned up and destroyed so that all faithful ones can live in heaven with God? Would such an idea really make sense? Some are taking a few verses literally without considering the entirety of Scripture. This view is out of harmony with God's stated purpose for mankind and this earth. The term "earth" is used scripturally to refer, not only to the planet itself, but also either to the people upon it, or the arrangement that structures their living. And the heavens, at times, refer to rulership. For instance, Genesis 11:1 says "Now all the earth continued to be of one language and of one set of words." Thus, when 2Peter 3:5-13 speaks of the 'heavens passing away' and the 'elements being dissolved' this has reference to rulerships and unrighteous arrangements that are not promoting eternal life. 2Peter 3:13 says "But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to His promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell." Jehovoze spent way too much time creating the literal heavens and earth for mankind's happiness to bring it to such a ruin. While some humans may ultimately reject God's rulership, His faithfulness is leading mankind to turn from wrongdoing, as He "does not desire anyone to be eliminated, but desires all to attain to repentance." (2PETer 3:9).

91 By your judgements they remain until today, For they are all your servants.

OUR ULTIMATE BENEFIT. (:91) "They" likely refers to the judgements themselves. God's righteous judgements have governed the lives of mankind. For instance, 2Peter 3:8 says "one day is with Jehovoze as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day." The first man Adam died within the 1000 year day of his living, as God said "the day" he ate from the tree he would die, his life span being 930 years (GENes 5:5). Evidently, mankind's life span would gradually come to have a natural limit of 120 years, as God's judgement came after mankind had been "ruined" morally in Noah's day. (GENes 6:3). Of course, it is also God's judgement that upright ones come to have an endless lifespan! So God's judgements are ultimately for our everlasting benefit and happiness. By God's judgements the heavens and the earth "remain until today" in the sense that His judgements serve for His good purpose, benefitting mankind immensely. Proverbs 16:4, for instance, says "Jehovoze has made everything work for his purpose."

92 If I had not been fond of your lall, I would have perished in my hardship.

NEED FOR GOD’S LOVING LALL. (:92) Once again, the psalmist reminds us of the importance of loving God's lall, appreciating it's value in our everyday life. He is convinced that, without it, he would not have made it through times of difficulty. Likewise today, many dangers exist in the world, both physically and spiritually. It is "spiritual death" that could cause one to lose out on eternal life. How we need God's loving lall, adhering to our God-given conscience, to help guide our steps safely through this world, into the "real life." (1TImo 6:19). Even in the new world, God's lall serves as a guide as one grows to tell right from wrong, and gain greater wisdom to fully grasp the reasons for the lalls God has set for our eternal welfare and happiness.

PSALM 119 COMMENTARY

STANZA 12 Theme:

GOD’S LAW/LALL AND WORD PRESERVE SPIRITUAL AND ETERNAL LIFE.

The verses of stanza 12 emphasize God’s faithfulness as well as fondness for God’s lall and it’s preservation value. What can help us not to forget God’s orders, as the psalmist mentioned was his determination?
STANZA 12B, verses 93-96

93 I will never forget your orders, Because by them you have preserved me alive.
94 I belong to you; save me, Because I have searched for your orders.
95 The ungodly wait to destroy me, But I give close attention to your reminders.
96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, But your commandment has no limit.

93 I will never forget your orders, Because by them you have preserved me alive.

CAREFULLY KEEP THEM! Clearly, for the psalmist not to forget God’s orders, he had to be familiar with them. According to the next verse, he had “searched for [God’s] orders,” and no doubt discovered them. As obeying them saved his life, likely multiple times, his appreciation for them must have deepened. Even if our life is not physically threatened as much as the psalmist, spiritual hazards abound. By heeding divine orders to guard against bad associations and to hate what is bad, for instance, we may allow God to guard our spiritual lives and eternal life prospects. (1COri 15:33; PROve 13:20; PSalm 97:10). Like the psalmist, search for God’s orders in His word, especially those from Christ, review them often, and carefully keep them! (PSAlm 119:4).

94 I belong to you; save me, Because I have searched for your orders.

ENDURANCE NOT SIMPLY 'SURVIVING.' The psalmist was born into a nation dedicated to God. Still, according to the psalmist, searching for God’s orders in order to keep or obey them provided a basis for salvation by Him. Jehoshua spoke in a similar way. After discussing many of the hardships that may be encountered by his disciples during the “last days,” he said at Matthew 24:13 “But the one who has endured to the end will be saved.” Such endurance is not simply “surviving,” but rather enduring trials faithfully to God, with integrity to Him, in harmony with His lall. Just as receiving a license to drive a vehicle does not give us the right to drive any unsafe way we wish on the street, so having the ransom of Christ does not give us the right to violate God’s lalls haphazardly. We should especially strive to carefully keep God’s orders, and appreciate His reminders in other areas of life, then the ransom sacrifice can cover our occasional misses, usually for more minor mistakes. As we do so, we “draw close to God,” and we may especially ‘belong to Him,’ as we prove to be loyal.

95 The crooked wait to destroy me, But I give close attention to your reminders.

VITAL REMINDERS FROM GOD. Thus this future king had enemies seeking to bring him to ruin, but paid “close attention” to reminders from God. Such reminders, which we may for instance receive at regular meetings for worship, may bring back to mind God’s orders, or other matters of lesser importance. Still, obedience in a seemingly small matter might still save one’s life, at least spiritually speaking. Jehoshua taught the importance of obedience even in the smaller things, at Luke 16:10, saying: “10 The person faithful in what is least is faithful also in much, and the person unrighteous in what is least is unrighteous also in much.” Can you think of a Bible command or principle that many take lightly, or completely ignore, but that could have an impact on a person spiritually? Many in recent times have been blinded spiritually, being taught to worship almost anything but the Creator, God. They are still unaware of the untold happiness and blessings that come with loving and serving God obediently, perhaps instead believing that “ignorance is bliss.” Selfish pursuits only supply a fake happiness, that leaves one empty and unsatisfied. The greater happiness, Jehoshua said, is in giving, rather than in receiving. (ACTs 20:35). Jehovoze' invited Israel to test Him out, in Malachi’s day, regarding their obedience to giving the required tithe, or tenth for true worship. Notice His words, at Malachi 3:10: “10 Bring the entire tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house; and test me out, please, in this regard,” Jehovoze of armies says, “to see whether I will not open to you the floodgates of the heavens and pour out on you a blessing until there is nothing lacking.” Such a tithe, even among Christians, respects Jacob's oath to God (GENes 28:10-22). May we grow in faith, or deep trust, with 'an attitude of gratitude,' in God’s ability to make His servants happy! Jehovoze Himself says: “Look! My servants will shout joyfully because of the good condition of the heart...” (ISAiah 65:13-14). Let us choose to serve Jehovoze wholeheartedly, having faith that He “becomes the rewarder of those earnestly seeking Him.” (HEBre 11:6).

96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, But your commandment has no limit.

SUPERIORITY OF GOD’S WISDOM . Truly, that which seems perfect from man’s perspective, the psalmist found to have it’s limitations. God’s commandment was different. God’s instructions are not limited in the way that man’s are. As God told the wayward nation of Israel in Isaiah’s time: “8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, And your ways are not my ways,” declares Jehovoze. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So my ways are higher than your ways And my thoughts than your thoughts.” (ISAiah 55:8-9). Thus, God’s ways are not limited as man’s own ways are. The guidance found in God’s word can help us in practically every situation we face. God’s wisdom is therefore far superior.

_____Ps119[8]

Stanza 13A-B 97-104
PSALM 119 STANZA 13A

STANZA 13 Theme: KEEP GOD'S WORD.

The 8 verses of this stanza address questions such as these: What are three aspects of divine wisdom, and how are they beneficial? Why was the psalmist motivated to avoid evil, and how does obeying God deepen our wisdom?

Stanza 13A reads like this:
97 How I do love your law! I ponder over it all day long.
98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, Because it is with me forever.
99 I have more insight than all my teachers, Because I ponder over your reminders.
100 I act with more understanding than older men, Because I observe your orders.

97 How I do love your law! I ponder over it all day long.

IN PRACTICALLY EVERY SITUATION. The psalmist is clearly motivated to obey God, wanting to please Him by living in accord with His lall. Jehovoze’s lall clearly reflects His own values and standards—loving and keeping it therefore helps us draw close to Him. But how can the psalmist have the time to “ponder over it all day long?” What does he mean by this? Rather than engaging in constant study or prayer, he realizes that God’s word gives us advice or principles to apply in practically every situation we face or meet in life. Thus, “all day long” as we seek God's view and way in every situation, God’s lall can guide and help us, so that we may more and more handle situations in a successful way that is pleasing to God and all involved. Proverbs 3:5-6 puts it this way: “5 Trust in Jehovoze with all your heart, And do not rely on your own understanding. 6 Please Him in all your ways, And he will make your paths straight.” Thus, look for God’s view, or way, in every situation you face, remaining humble before Him and others.

98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, Because it is with me forever.

DEEP APPRECIATION. Once again we find that God’s lall or commandment, now especially through Christ, is the way of eternal peace and happiness! As we’ve seen, the psalmist has come to love, live, and breathe God’s lall, appreciating it as priceless and now confident that it will be with him forever. Have we yet developed such appreciation? Notice as Proverbs 3 continues, with verses 7-8, NKJV: “Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.” Confident in the wisdom of God’s word and law/lall, one should continue to trust in God and His word more than oneself or any wisdom already acquired. Doing so, may God lead and guide us successfully through any difficulties, as we thankfully rely upon Him with prayer.

99 I have more insight than all my teachers, Because I ponder over your reminders.

ALWAYS GOOD REASON. One aspect of divine wisdom is “insight.” This is empathy at work, to comprehend a given situation. Proverbs 19:11 says this: “11 The insight of a man certainly slows down his anger, And it is beauty on his part to overlook an offense.” Such applied empathy enables us to grasp why someone perhaps offended us the way they did, slowing down any anger that we might have begun to experience. The psalmist has developed such keen insight by pondering over God’s “reminders.” When we’re reminded about some order or command from God, are we in the habit of “pondering” the reasons for it, in harmony with God’s love for humanity? Does not Jehovoze always have good reason for His lalls in keeping with what is true, right, just, and fair for all? (Prove 21:3; Psalm 98:9). May we develop such a habit to ask Why? God instructs us as He does, confident in His overriding love for us in all His good guidance. (1John 4:8).

100 I act with more understanding than older men, Because I observe your orders.

DISCERN GOD'S ORDERS FOR GREATER WISDOM. Two more aspects of divine wisdom are "discernment" and “understanding.” These are vital to fully grasp God’s lall and apply it in all aspects of life. This is a key text, as it shows a way to grow in understanding is by searching for, and following God’s orders, or most serious and urgent commands. This requires discernment, to see differences between things, such as right and wrong, true and false, and serious commands from lesser ones. This helps motivate any understanding in the right way, to apply it successfully with love. Understanding involves seeing the big picture of something, along with all it’s pieces, and how they fit together to make the whole of it, especially as regards God's will and matters of spirit. This is important when it comes to comprehending God’s lall in a matter. Recently we considered as an example the understanding needed to safely operate a motor vehicle. Several laws and principles can and should be understood and kept to make the necessary decisions to drive well. The process of learning to drive properly thus aids development of understanding. Love of God and neighbor should be primary motivations in doing so, to do so safely. Learning to observe God’s orders enabled the psalmist to act with great understanding. May all give attention especially to God’s commands through Christ, discerning the difference between the most serious of commands, and those of lesser importance. We should keep them all, but seek awareness of the most serious and urgent ones, such as the Ten Commandments written on stone tablets. This will help us be much wiser in making good decisions each day.

_____Ps119[9]

PSALM 119 COMMENTARY

STANZA 13 Theme: KEEP GOD'S WORD.

PSALM 119 (5PS13) STANZA 13B

Stanza 13B reads like this:
101 I refuse to walk on any evil path, So that I may keep your word.
102 I do not turn aside from your judgements, For you have instructed me.
103 How sweet your sayings are to my palate, More so than honey to my mouth!
104 By your orders I act with understanding. That is why I hate every false path.

101 I refuse to walk on any evil path, So that I may keep your word.

REALLY PLEASING GOD. Recall the psalmist said in verse 97 that he loved God’s law/lall, loving obedience to Him. He had acquired the discernment to see the difference between right and wrong, good and bad, true and false, and so on. Largely by God’s word he came to recognize an evil path, or at least knew when a path was out of harmony with God’s will, refusing to walk on it. Notice he was not enticed to disobey or hurt Jehovoze' in any way—wanting only to keep God’s word. May we come to feel as the psalmist about pleasing our loving God, Jehovoze!

102 I do not turn aside from your judgements, For you have instructed me.

TAUGHT BY JEHOVOZE. God’s “judgements” are decisions or evaluations made by examining an issue in truth according to His lall. Psalm 19:9 speaks of the awse of God and His judgements: “9 The awse of Jehovoze is pure, lasting forever. The judgements of Jehovoze are true, altogether righteous.” Regarding what can be learned from them, Isaiah says at 26:9, “9 In the night I long for you with my whole being, Yes, my spirit keeps looking for you; For when there are judgements from you for the earth, The inhabitants of the land learn about righteousness.” Isaiah was a prophet commissioned to declare God’s word and judgements to Israel, even those regarding other nations. Thus when Jehovoze judges a people or a nation, much can be learned by everyone about God’s right ways, and what’s required by Him. The psalmist was moved to acknowledge God’s judgements because he had been instructed by Jehovoze, as Isaiah 54:13 says of God’s servants: “13 And all your sons will be taught by Jehovoze, And the peace of your sons will be abundant.” Jesus or Jehoshua continues this thought, saying at John 6:45: “...Everyone who has listened to the Father and has learned comes to me.” May all likewise appreciate and heed God’s right and wise judgements or decisions, ever pleasing Him, fearing to pain Him in any way.

103 How sweet your sayings are to my palate, More so than honey to my mouth!

TREASURE SAYINGS OF GOD. What we learn from God can be compared to food, vital for sustaining life! In fact, Jesus/Jehoshua opened his famous Sermon on the Mount with these words: “3 “Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need, since the Kingdom of the heavens belongs to them.” We have a need spiritually just as we have a physical need for life-sustaining water and food. He also emphasized this when being tempted, saying at Matthew 4:4 “...It is written: ‘Man must live, not on bread alone, but on every word that comes from Jehovoze’s mouth.’” Jehoshua was the word of God, a spokesman for Him, and how disciples appreciated the words spoken by this one about the Father and the doing of His will. Such sayings of God may become delightful to one, like real honey from the honeycomb, usually beneficial to a person! (Prove 24:13). May all come to treasure the wisdom of God found in His beneficial sayings as largely recorded in His word, and come to live by them!

104 By your orders I act with understanding. That is why I hate every false path.

GOD'S ORDERS PROMOTE UNDERSTANDING. More than just avoiding an evil path out of love for God, the psalmist came to “hate every false path.” Psalm 97:10 accordingly says: “10 O you who love Jehovoze, hate what is bad. He is guarding the lives of his loyal ones; He rescues them from the hand of the crooked.” By coming to know some of the harm of badness, the reasons God warns us against certain things, we can be helped to develop a beneficial hatred for all such badness. Clearly, He warns us from bad out of great love for us, to protect us from spiritual or other harm. But notice, the psalmist came to hate a false path by giving attention to God’s orders, and coming to act with understanding. May we likewise search out God’s most important and urgent commands, that we may keep them whole-heartedly, growing in wisdom and gaining the understanding necessary to see problems associated with false or dishonest ways of no lasting benefit.

I believe I had interference from talking up the holiday as Christ's Family Weekend on the website this year, although many still likely heard, for Dec 27th and 28th; there is strong reason for caution, due to God's blessing potentially being removed from Dec 25. Some prophecies were fulfilled in recent years, including one about Job's cursing of the day of his birth, which both was historically Dec 25 and whose life foreshadowed Christ in some ways, prophetically. When God's blessing is on a day, He has often protected people from danger; For years now Jesus above (AzGod) has been saving thousands of lives weekly traveling roadways for instance. It is acknowledged that this went so misunderstood this year, without realizing a completely acceptable alternative in Christ's Family Weekend, but God and Jesus Christ above still have made clear that safe travel cannot be guaranteed for Dec 25. Why not open some gifts on the evening of the 24th, and save the rest for Christ's Family Weekend, on the 27th and 28th, good days for traveling to family, etc. for the same. To the extent that we do such things, we will please both God and Christ, showing faith in their word. Be careful what you do on the 25th, seeking God's approval, and pray about the matter if there are already plans made on that day. (y.B24,oC20 Sat 6:08; 7:16; 8:55 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! I still need to update a few more things in the full or main article on blogpost 3, under Persistent Articles, the CTC, More Orderly Time, New Month and Daynames (8 Day Calendar). (y.B02,oB28Fri 6:15; 7:30,55 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! I apologize for delay (or being delayed). Added (3) Proverbs A, chapter 8, verses 1-5, PR-A(8.1) . The last current update to the (Persistent Article) 1A) Sum More Orderly Time article is still to come, planned this morning sometime, but don't forget the main article itself (Blogpost 3, Persistent Article), with the more complete explanations, etc. Important Name Update to (BP3, PA CTC) More Orderly Time article, and other Dayname corrections, etc. (PA) 1A) Sum More Orderly Time article has now been updated, with two new paragraphs following the Additional Information. I may re-arrange them later for a better article overall. (y.B01,oB27Thu 7:44,50; 10:13,31; 11:00 am; 12:37,50,53,57; 1:11,16,35,40,48 pm EST) Hello, wishing all well and a Happy Thanksgiving! I've worked on another article of interest which I aim to post/update before 10am or so. Also, some are familiar with my God's View of Celebrations article under the Misc. Heading, which I haven't updated for some time but helps with understanding God's balanced view of holidays, and that we should seek His view of matters. George Washington instituted Thanksgiving, which even has a correlation in God's word to a Harvest Festival required of God's people to commemorate each year! God certainly wants us to be thankful, at one time there was more confusion regarding the caution Jesus gave about a "world" (Greek "cosmos"), which had to do with a corrupt version of worship, essentially the "Babylon the Great" of Revelation. It is acceptable to God for us to have chosen important days to be holidays, we just need to respect His view of matters. I aim to review that Celebrations article sometime in the near future, and post an update. POSTED the First Portion of the Persistent Article (PA) GA, " 1A) Sum More Orderly Time (8-Day Calendar) " ! More to follow... (Also update to BP3, Persistent Article, CTC More Orderly Time--Month and Daynames). (This BP1 PA) GA, Sum More Orderly Time, Posted More . Still more to come. More Posted , last portion not being rushed. Updates. (y.A33,oB26Wed 7:51; 8:05,22,30,36 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! Keeping PR-A(7.5) up, Added PR-A(7.6), Proverbs A, chapter 7, verses 24-27. Updates. (y.A32,oB25Tue 6:17,51,56; 7:48; 8:26 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! Let me apologize for the delay. Posted (3) Proverbs A, PR-A(7.5), chapter 7, verses 7-10, 21-23 . Also note yesterday's post of (8A) Come to Consensus Corner, Avoid Driving Under the Influence . (Alcohol leaves the bloodstream over time. So to avoid driving under the influence means that IF alcohol is consumed, then it should still not be strong enough when driving begins to be substantially influencing your driving actions, reactions, etc. Largely, and in terms of law, the BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) limit is the determining factor, and this can be fairly accounted for by considering beverages consumed and time spent following their consumption.) ALSO, moved more notes to Former Notes, you may scroll down for another Article List of Posts from 11/02-11/15. (y.A31,oB24Mon 6:47; 7:12,23,29 am; 8:23,35 pm EST) Hello, wishing all well! Added (3) Proverbs A, PR-A(7.4), chapter 7, verses 10,17-21. Planning to post the next two posts the following two days, to complete chapter 7. Also planning the post of a (8) Come to Consensus Corner policy on Driving Under the Influence, and other posts. Updates. Added (8A) Come to Consensus Corner article, Avoid Driving Under the Influence . (y.A27,oB20Thu 6:13,16,24,27 am EST) Hello! Added a Persistent Article (PA) Collection on Blogpost 2, called 4A-5) Deuteronomy and New World, containing both Godz Lawl and Eternal Express segment collection. (y.A26Min,oB19Wed 6:58; 10:12,20 am EST) Hello, wishing all well! Drawing attention to yesterday's post of (1A) Golden Apples, How the Kingdom of God Relates to the (Proper) U.S. (Democratic) Constitutional Republic, as well as the Winit5to9 Podcast Text (1B) of Issue of Good Government. Also planning addition to (1A) Golden Apples, article Low Water Response/Conservation . Added paragraph, Hydration. Update. (y.A25Rih,oB18Tue 6:35; 9:21 am; 5:01,16 pm EST) Hello, wishing all well! Added (1A) Golden Apples, Low Water Response/Conservation . ALSO, added (5) Eternal Express, Comprehend God's Love in Christ . ADDED , to (1A) Golden Apples, How the Kingdom of God Relates to the (Proper) U.S. (Democratic) Constitutional Republic NOTE on (y.A16,oB09Sun): Asking for continued prayers for God's continued blessing on our seeking His will, on humbly acknowledging His hand on having made our nation great in the past, with His blessing on the Founders and Spirit-inspired documents, together comprising another holy book or collection, founding our government as it should be, although we've needed His help to apply it properly and see the God-blessed results with better unity, harmony, and cooperation, some of which was in evidence or growing for a time last year, 2024. Some wondered if our entire form of government needed to be thrown out, but this was not the case--God's blessing is not upon such an effort, and it actually threatens our Having His blessing on our nation to be His means of blessing all others! Our history reveals the progress toward peace that was in evidence over many decades, and God's blessing through His Kingdom on our efforts to respect the Democratic Constitutional Republic that the Founders established as our true God-blessed government, that can again become still more cooperative and effective in seeking the good of our people and humanity. It can take great and cooperative effort to make things right sometimes when it's necessary. Nevertheless, with God's help, we can still "Restore Good, and Move Forward"! Real effort to make things right, His way, will be blessed by Him and help get us back on track, or keep us on track for restored peace, the kind of peace former President Ronald Reagan and others did much to help move us toward by the hand of God or His Son above, Jesus Christ. We have been close to having this peace, and greater, worldwide, and many by God's spirit have been working together with me toward this, really all cooperating with God's will for a truly peaceful world! Still, may prayers continue that the true President of the United States, the true winner of the 2024 Presidential election, which was not Donald Trump, can become known as such, being blessed by God to be or become as this one should be and still can be, with at least gradual acknowledgement of the truth as it becomes more known or clear to the many truthlovers and supporters in our nation, our public, the world, our government, our news media, and so on.
